For a while now, the orange oil level warning light has been flashing 5 times when I turn on the ignition. It just flashes 5 times and then goes off. It does it almost every time I turn the ignition on but not EVERY time. A scan using VCDS threw up the following:

1 Fault Found:

00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266)

30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent

I want to check the wiring to the sensor, but I can't find it! :) There is nothing in the sump where I expected it to be. Anybody with a 9n 1.2 12v know where it is??

I know there is a pressure sensor, I haven't seen a temp or level sensor though?

I would assume the level sensor would be next to the dipstick if its not in the sump?

Hmm. Yeah, I had a look along the dipstick thinking it might be there, or that maybe the dipstick formed part of the circuit or something.

If there wasn't one, that would explain why the circuit was open!!

I guess there must be one somewhere if my cluster is looking for it every time I start and VCDS is throwing the code.

I had a good look around the dipstick area, and all around the sump tonight. I found a wired connector which is zip tied up out of the way and not connected to anything but I couldn't find a sensor to connect it to!

I have a theory!

I am thinking that the sump may have been replaced before I owned the car for a sump without the hole for a sensor! In order to test that theory though I could do with someone who has a 1.2 S 9n having a look at their sump to see if the sensor pictured below is fitted...

I went into VCDS and looked at the Instrument Panel control module and went to adaption. Channel 39 is "Oil temperature/level" sensor fitted. Value of 1 = yes and value of 0 = no. I thought I would just turn it to 0 but when I try to do that it won't let me save the new value....

Weirdly, VCDS monitoring can give me an oil temperature... so it must be reading it from somewhere. Don't really want to have to change the sump just to replace a sensor....
