1.0 6n erratic rev counter and flashing oil light

Featured Replies

Hi,

My polo has done 74,000 miles, with full service history, only just serviced it about 1500 miles ago at college and drives fine. even plugged it into the scanner and nothing came up. start driving the car today into town probably a 2 mile drive, driving as normal then suddenly the oil light starts flashing and the rev counter is randomly reving to 7,000 then 0 repetitively. So I park up as quick as possible leave for 1 minuet to try to find somewhere more leagal to park lol and the oil light is still flashing and the revs are everywhere, but drives as normal. leave it for 20 mins contemplating what the duck I do. decide to take it home and revs are fine oil light is off. when it cooled down, I checked the oil, and it was fine. Have also been letting it rev and idle for a good 20 mins, and no oil light and the rev counter is fine

Probibly not relevant but my car does have a telematics box in it, but no curfews, purely monitors driving and has I think two wires into the fuse box and one earthed somewhere, so doesn't really intrude in anything important. I also noticed about 4 months ago while I was learning, a slight puff off smoke come up from the steering collum area, just randomly and about 2 months ago when my dad drove it he noticed it once but haven't seen it since?

any ideas??

Henry
