Wiring Sub/Amp Without Changing Head Unit

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have wired plenty of subwoofers up to aftermarket stereos but never done to a standard stereo.

I now have a 1.4 Match edition polo and I don't want to change the head-unit as its looks nice already but I would like to add a small sub.

how can I link the sub up as there are no RCA plugs at the back of the unit ?

Thanks in advance

Jamie

most oe headunits have a third socket on the back to allow for connection of adaptor leads/boxes. you just need to find the right adaptor. You haven't said which model of headunit your car is fitted with. It is common for manufacturers to offer their cars with std and premuim ICE

Ah sorry its the RCD310 with Bluetooth, ipod and AUX connections and thanks ill take a look at the back at the weekend.

Buy a high to low converter and tap off the rear L + R channels behind the stereo. that will provide your rca output to your amp, your current wiring harness might have a remote wire, if not do some searching and see if there is a remote out at any of the stereo io pins.
if not just tap off the ignition live and add an extra switch and use that.
