I also took out the bulkhead divider as well, to make room for the throttle bodies at the back of the engine. Surprisingly, I was able to get it out with just a plumbers wrench (pliers) once I'd cut

I now own a Quaife LSD and a G40 Gearbox. It's been an expensive week, and I put 450 miles on the car chasing these down. The work continues.

good job! id love to get a diff. pricey though!!

you should make a diffuser up for the rear, now that you have got rid of the wheel well the rear valance is gonna be like a parachute

Agree with Eric here, Yoof has some designs / got a diffuser laying around I think. Looking good though dude, have you had a think about spring rates yet? I'd also think about getting the camber adjustable TCA's from PPP aswell. What tyres are you thinking for the 10" wellers? Not stretch I hope!

  • Author

the diffuser is already on my list of things to fabricate

I've not looked into spring rates yet but I know you need a very firm setup to run the stage 3.

Tyres wise, no stretch here, don't you worry about that.

I know I'm not giving much away here, but here's a few more photos.

I've now got a NOS pair of headlamps to add to the boxes of parts in my wardrobe too.

That little tang in the middle of the bottom panel was only there to use to earth against while I weld BTW.

Suspension wise mate, depends what you want from the car,

If it's purely track based and you don't care about skitting around on the road or it riding shite or having lift off I'm in a tree issues then hefty springs may be the one; however you should still be able to obtain some ride comfort and roll stiffness etc through other means, lack of a front ARB isn't ideal, but roll stiffness could be gained still, just depends obviously everything is a compromise but hit me up if you want some help/advise; but ideally need some figures such as unsprung masses etc but maybe able to work something out.

Thanks Nick, I'd planned on asking your advice! I'm gonna get it rolling on the coilovers that I've got and then I planned on setting it up using the corner weights etc and asking your advice, I sure don't want to lose this car to the same gremlin as my old mk2. It's not gonna be slammed anyway as with my splitter it'll catch on everything and drive like a dog.

Any more updates Jim?

It really does deepens on what you want from the car mate, a decent fast road setup will probably be shite on track, realistically a decent track setup will be a, shite on road, and b, dangerous on road lol!

Where does the super charger go? :P

Never saw that rust before you repaired it, spot on job mate :)

So the nearside wheel arch is pretty much finished.

Now comes decision time. I want to have a centre exit exhaust which means I will need to modify the valance and delete the factory cutout.

I will also need to finalise my plans for a fuel tank and filler neck solution too before I can start the offside arch as obviously it's designed with filler neck and fuel flap in mind. I can't use a factory tank if I have a centre exit as there won't be enough room for the pipe under the tank. Unless I use a factory mk2 tank (after retrofitting a mk2 handbrake) and route the pipe to the side and back to the centre, which will be crap.

Anyone got any ideas for a slimmer style tank that I can fit in the stock location?

cut the tank in half lol

I don't know why you don't just buy a decent fuel cell and mount it on top of the wheel well cover your welding it. Then use one of thowe factory vents on the quarter panel as a tank vent, just have to lift the boot up to fill it up, which is awesome :D then you can delete the pipe of doom and all the shit on the os arch and have centre exit exhaust

Get a baffled tank cell, or a decent swirl Pot and fuel pump

Nuke performance do some awesome stuff
