Hi I have a 2008 Polo Match 1.2 and am having problems with the high beam headlight switch which is part of the indicator stalk.

For the last couple of weeks the full beams were intermittently switching off when the switch was in the 'on' position (i.e. pushed forward until the 'click') and they were also coming on occasionally without the switch being activated.

Last night the switch stopped working altogether and I can't get the full beams to come on at all. The switch still goes into the forward 'click' position but nothing happens. This is an MOT failure so I need to get it sorted.

I can still do a high beam 'flash' by pulling the stalk towards me so there doesn't seem to be a problem with the fuses. This isn't a common problem with the 9N3 and I haven't been able to find out anything on the Internet so any help/advice would be appreciated. Hopefully this doesn't require a dealer visit.

The way that you describe this problem, sounds very much as if it is the actual switch that is 'past its sell by date' rather than any other part of the system.

Thanks, yeah I think I'll have to replace the combination switch entirely which means a whole new indicator/wiper stalk. Disappointing that the part has failed after just 5 years. Anyway I can get a used one for about £30 on eBay. Changing it involves removing the steering wheel/airbags so I'll take it to a garage.

It might be best to ask the advice of the garage, some of them don't like fitting used parts that they have not supplied, and some won't fit them at all.

Just bumping this thread to say it was the switch, thanks for the advice caretakerplus.

£20 for a used replacement part and £30 to get it fitted at RapidFit. Happy enough.
