6n2 Boost Gauge

Featured Replies

Hi, thinking about fitting a boost gauge to my 1.4tdi.

After thinking about it, the best place to put it is in between the clocks, basically where the GTI analogue clock is.

Does anyone know if the middle part of the clocks at the top has any electrical boards or anything there? As i will need to remove a chunk of it.

I plan on going to a pick a part yard if nobody knows and taking one to bits whilst I'm in there.

Lupo luke has already done this, he'll be your best bet

I used the gti clock covers, although this could be done with your clock covers, I chopped a section from the covers to help clear the boost gauge I then made a hole in the back cover for the boost gauge and then chopped and plastic welded a boost gaugue shield to mount the gaugue in.

I wanted to put a gaugue the the analogue clock really but I couldn't find one small enough.

I used an r spec gauge as they were fairly shallow and uses a stepper motor so no nasty buzzing noises, fairly cheap too.

Here's the finished product not perfect but not bad for an hours work.

I have some more pics but photobucket won't let me upload them.

And yes there is a circuit board in the middle of the clocks which means you have to use a shallow gauge and mount it a bit further forward.

Some more pics would be great if you can upload them.

So you used the TDI clocks with the GTI chrome bits, and you had to chop a little out to fit the gauge in, then just cut a hole in the dash cover?

Where did you T into for the pressure data, the MAP sensor? I was looking into a mechanical one as it reacts faster but upon hearing about this buzzing noise i'm feeling the best bet is electrical.

Last thing, id get the psi reading, what is the max yours goes up to in bar, would 30 psi be enough?

Thanks for info.

You can't T in to anything as such to get the boost reading like you can on a petrol I got a harbour off eBay and fitted that to the boost hose that goes on the inlet mani.

And it spikes at about 1.6 bar, and that's mapped. And tbh the reaction time is more than adequate, if I had something worth fitting a boost gaugue too I would have got an expensive mechanical one.

Might be worth a mention that you don't need a boost gaugue with a vacuum reading as well.

Worked photobucket out so here's more pics.

Also I binned the vhose you get in the kit and used some rubber hose (the type you get

In a VW repair kit for washer pipes).

Here's the bit you need for the take off.

Why cant you T into anything, isnt the part you linked just a T piece anyway?)

Why dont i need one with vacuum?

I'm not that good with engines.

I'm confused, why do you need a hose if its an electrical gauge?

It looks quite low on the clocks, was the dial outwards enough so that you didnt need to cut into the speedo?

I was looking at getting;

You can't t in to anything as all the little hoses carry a vacuum not boost. And a tdi doesn't create any vacuum as such.

And nope thing of it as a nut and bolt with a hole in the middle that let's air out that you can connect the hose to.

Hose has to connect the harbour to a boost pressure sensor which is then wired too boost gauge.

And tbh it would probably clear the speedo but I had to chop it off anyway.

And same make as mine, I also fitted one of these to a fabia vrs as well.

You fitted yours to the large hose going to the EGR valve, i understand what you mean now.

I was going to say can i not use the fuel pressure regulator like most do, but iv not seen one?

I was looking into mounting it inside one of the vents, ideally behind the slats, but none are at the right angle so youd be able to see it :(. The only other option would be to remove the slats/cut a hole in.

Thanks for answering my questions.

Someone else has done it here;

No worries if you get stuck just holla, I also wired mine in using the wiring going to the cluster, and nope there isn't a fuel pressure regulator as such to T in to.

I thought long and hard about where to put the gauge and it was either this or a pod on the a pillar.

I'll get a pic of the hose under the Bonnet over the next few days.

Also have a look at the tdi forum about PD engines, all the info you will ever need is there if your interested.

And if your anything like me you will become a diesel convert lol.

Whats the white thing that looks like a fuel filter?

Just a filter, it would probably be fine with out it but it came in the kit.
