Morning, a garage local to me has a Audi A3 1.6 Petrol on a 51 plate for sale. (it is the 1.6 Sport 3dr model)

The car has covered 110k miles, and has service history (haven't been to check what history exactly it has).

The car will come with 12 months MOT. I was just wondering if anyone has experience with these model A3s and what did you think of them? Also, what problems do these face when starting to push the 110k mileage mark.

Probably means it has the maritime blue interior. which IMO is fukcing disgusting. Makes it seem like your sitting in a toy car or something. Horrible horrible rank interior tbh lol.

Just went to view the A3, the interior was a dark blue (basically black) plain interior which seemed nice!

Overall the car is clean and looked straight, although said I would go back down with someone who knows what to look for. The car also didn't start as apparantly the battery had gone flat, which is a little worrying considering it's a small garage with only about 7 cars haha.

Any more information on these A3 models?

Surely atleast one person on here has owned a 1.6 Sport A3? hahaha. Any information?

Also, how many of you would walk away from a car due to no service history? I.e. how many of you look out specifically for service history when buying a car?

Main things to look out for are central locking pumps failing, located in the boot. And tha dash dials can play up on them, which means sending them off to get repaired, costs around £100 iirc.

Not sure how they are on fuel, i had a 1.8 non turbo version and avaraged around 30mpg town driving mainly.

As matt mk3loon said, chassis is based on a mk4 golf so no big problems, knocking from the front usualy means anti roll bar bushes, and rear axle bushes could need replacing if they haven't already been done.

The car is up for £1000, although it comes with no service history, has a chrome style halfords ariel (so i imagine has been owned by a chav that has abused it) and has been stood for a while as the battery was flat and small surface rust on the disks.

Might be worth doing a vehicle check just to make sure its not been written off at some point.

Otherwise if it drives ok and looks ok, go for it.

I had a 1.8 20V Turbo A3 for a short while.

Overall as a car it was good, did what a car should do. Mine was a 1998 and I bought it cheap with no MOT. Needed a few things but because, as said, they are a Mk4 Golf they share a lot of parts so parts are cheap and easy to come by.

Common faults, central locking pumps, ARB bushes. If it's a 3 door like mine was the seats can fail and don't clip back in place after you've let someone in the back. I slammed mine on coilovers and had no end of issues with the ARB and driveshafts even after buying uprated bushes and adjustable drop links etc.

I got rid of it after just 4 months of having it as I felt it had no character when driving. It was quick(ish) in a straight line, handled really well etc but it never put a smile on my face.
