I have decided I can no longer keep 2 vehicles on the road due to a change of job, so regrettably I have chosen to sell my Golf, and keep my boring Polo for the daily commute to my new place of work. The car has been a great little thing to own and has been one of the most fun cars to drive that I have owned.

The car comes with 11 months MOT and 5 months tax.

It is an early spec 1987 cabriolet with small bumpers finished in Helios Blue. The car was resprayed around 5 years ago, the overall condition suggests this is true, it is a virtually rust free example and the paintwork comes up very good after a polish. The car does have a few small dents and light scratches here and there, but overall looks a tidy example of a 26 year old car. The only rust being some surface rust on top of the o/s sill in the door shut (pictured) and a few other tiny bits, the arches under the plastic covers are in great rust free condition. It is an honest, solid little car. I have owned several mk2 Golf’s before this Mk1 and it is in far better condition and running order than any of those were, it certainly won’t disappoint.

144k 1.6 running a twin choke Webber carb with manual choke. Runs spot on. In my 7 months of ownership, covering 6000 miles I have replaced the following:

Fuel filler neck

Ignition coil (used, from another working Golf)

Distributor (used, from another working Golf)

Distributor cap, rotor arm, leads, Spark plugs

Oil change and filter twice

Tie rods and ball joints on both sides

The tired front seats were replaced with some very good condition period Recaro seats with a good colour match to rest of interior.

The roof is in good condition apart from a very small rip (about 4cm) on the lower right side, however roof does not leak at all, even in heavy rain. The Golf has had coilovers fitted by the previous owner.

There are no major bad points with this car, it is reliable and drives exactly how it should, only minor niggles that would be simple to rectify, as with any car of this age, however here they are -

Rear window handles missing, easy to source and replace.

Manual choke handle is slightly loose in its housing on the dashboard (very minor, just being honest!)

Comes on steel wheels as the BBS wheels are no longer available.

Slight exhaust blow (advisory on MOT, went through fine how it is).
