Project rat to riches. mk2 polo coupe S

Featured Replies

So, here I am. Some of you may know me from the champagne coloured polo 6n2 on pajero wheels, others might from creating the complete shitstorm that is splitter scuffers. I'm starting another project thread. again, late in the day as a lot of work is already done, but theres still a load more so i gathered i'd start it now. swapped it for my 6n2 and i must admit when it pulled into the car park i though wtf am i doing... i strategically chose thecat and fiddle pass to pick the car up so that i knew how i'd fell with the car when it was officially mine. i fell in love. drives like a dream and the noise is phenomenal. Here she is! started a ratty matt black (rusty as fuck) mk2 polo coupe s and is now in the middle of a mad project.

here's a few pictures from when i first got it.

Always hated rat look but decided that having this would be a good project as i would have a reason to completely start again. anyway, a few days after picking it up the wallet grew thin. ordered some new comps wrapped in falcons, sprayed red lines on the bumpers, nardi wheel, few other little goodies and a week into owning it this is how she looked.

the next step was to enhance the performance a little more so it was completely stripped.

and then came the interior part. wanted some old style buckets and to make the interior as clean and original as possible. found some recaro fishnets, harnesses and started retrimming the speaker holders.

The rust was beginning to get on my nerves a bit and i wanted something to do some subtle mods that really made the difference. Mk1 golf XL arches on the rears and regular Mk1 golf arches on the fronts. the rears are all welded up and arein the process of being blended etc. and the fronts are going on this weekend. oh and some 30mm spacers to sort out the horrendous offset. ps the car is now in primer cause i fucking hated the matte black.

completely shattered the clutch so i haven't drove it in a while but its all back ready for the road and while its been off I've had time to do a few bits. started tidying the engine bay.

I like where you're going with it, admittedly first couple of pics of when you got it, it looks horrendous

Also great work on the arches, it's something I've been considering doing for a while, and think you've convinced me!

Look forward to seeing more

New wheels look a lot better.
