Insurance companies Rant

Featured Replies

Today i decided to update some information on both my policies with Adrian Flux today one being with the Beetle as I've had a few mods to declare upping the price another £6 on each months debit so far so good but then decided to mention that the Polo has been put in a secure warehouse which in fact is a classic car specialist who deal with storage for old classics so there is people around for the best part of the day and the cars are locked up behind two metal doors with cameras so not much chance of them being stolen.

Now you would think that being a couple of miles up the road and how secure the warehouse is that the policy would be cheaper than having it sitting on your driveway? but no the woman on the other end told me it will be upped by another £10 per month with the excuse that it would be more of chance it could be stolen .

Now this is where it got tricky and that was when i mentioned if thats the way they wanted to play it i will remove said vehicle from the premises and bring it back to my address but no not as easy as that as the woman then decided to tell me that i needed photographic proof i have it on the drive with a date on photo and a explanation and they weren't budging with there descision so now I've resulted in closing my account asking if my 10 years protected claim can transfer over to the Beetle for which they are in dispute about with .

Maybe in hind sight i should not of said anything considering its only for a few months during the winter or i should of done my homework before i moved it but please let it be a lesson learnt for anyone on here who is going down the route i have with regards to storage as the insurance companies may sting you .

Wow! I wouldn't of thought to mention it was in storage at another address if it was down the road and more secure.

Wonder what would of happened if my polo was stolen whilst it was at a body shop for a couple of months?

Sounds like Adrian Flux all over. I'm with them this year and I can't wait til I'm away from them. So far they've cancelled my policy twice, once because the finance company (which appears to be a wholly owned subsidary of Adrian Sux) messed up my direct debit, but still managed to collect an admin fee just fine, and once because they "didn't get my proof of NCB, and I couldn't prove I'd sent it". It's been about 3 months now, so I'm probably due another one.

I should have learnt last time when they tried to invalidate my cover because I didn't tell them the vehicle was modified.

Said vehicle was a Q-plated kit car. Of course it's modified, it used to be a Cortina, now it's a big plastic truck

It's annoying as they sting you what ever way you go as it's going to cost me £75 to pull out but I'm glad to see the back of them for the way they treated this situation . I've decided to not insure the Polo whilst it's spending it's time layed for the winter then to go somewhere else in the new year , as regards to the beetle I will have to wait till it runs out and go somewhere else .

I'm staying away from them that's stupid

I would Buxton I've never heard anything so stupid they did not use any common sense and going by just the post code and not taking into account of the storage facility. A lesson learnt I would say .

Never had any issues with AF but i used to work in insurance so dont take a price hike for an answer. Suppose its just the luck of the draw with regards to who you talk to and the age old postcode lottery

Couple of things on this.

Adrian Flux are a broker, the additional premium being asked for will be coming from the insurer. I assume the postcode has changed, postcodes have a huge impact on price, Fort Knox security aside.

With regards to moving your NCB over the beetle, I would assume you have a classic car policy which does not have NCB applied to it, so that may not be possible.

upping the price another £6 on each months debit

will be upped by another £10 per month

Quoting monthly payments is all well and good but you need to look at the annual insurance premium and how much these charges are effecting it

The no claims was built up over the years when i was with Churchill then i moved over to AF 2 years ago ,I'm quite proud of the fact that over the 20 or so years i have not been involved in an accident so not had to make a claim the Polo is on a limited milage of 3k a year and not on a classic car insurance and the beetle is again on a limited milage of 5k .Yes I've learnt that it is a postcode lottery its a shame that the insurance companies cannot differ their price depending on where its parked whether its on a drive to a well secure building :-( .

Hi guys well the saga continued after sending in photographic proof that the car was back on the driveway and after sending in 3 different photos of it on the driveway AF still were in dispute I even argued that they sent a represenative down to see for themselves which obviously they werent going to do so as a result i ended up closing the account disgusted with the way they treated their customers and ended up coming to an agreement that i paid 2 installments of monies for closing it early on the 1st of every month.

Well i recieved a snotty nosed letter from them dated the 30th saying if i dont pay full amont in the next 7 days court action will be taken against me so it seems to me this company does not give a s*%t aboout it customers and about making monetory gain .

I will never recommend this company to anyone and will make my feelings known through there customer questionaire.

To be honest I wouldn't be just slating Adrian Flux with this scenario.

I've been driving for 9 years and had over 30 cars with about 20 different insurance companies. They are all the same at the end of the day.

90% of them will fight to get your custom by giving you a good deal which will match or beat similar offers.

Once they have got you into a contract though and you are past the 14 day cooling off period you have pretty much had it. At that point they have you bent over a barrel with your trousers at your ankles, ready to fire it in hard with no lube whenever you pick up the phone to them.

Want to change your car, they charge you (I've even had them try and charge me more for changing to the same kind of car)

Change of circumstances, they charge you

Add or remove drivers, they charge you

Cancel your policy, they charge you (this can be the big one as some companies will try and charge the remainder of the policy)

If they do take you to court and you want a witness to say what a lying, cheating set of nice people (self-moderated) they are, put me down as a witness!
