1.3 GT engine into a 1.0 bready?

Featured Replies

Hello. I have a B reg bog standard 1.0 bread van and was looking at giving it a bit more go and have the chance of a complete mk2 gt polo.

Is this a straight forward swap and is there anything else I could use off the gt on the 1.0, like brakes and suspension etc...?

Thank you..

Itll fit mate, you can use pretty much all your parts but a 5 speed gearbox would be good too

and get the Anti-roll-bar to match a 5 speed box.

Use the GT's electronic ignition parts (dizzy TCI-H amp, loom and coil).

There's a brake bias compensator valve to adjust how much force goes to rear drums when car heavily laden.

It's just in front of nearside rear wheel. Though a B-reg bready might have that as standard..

Steering rack might have a gas damper for bumps.

Swap the dials to get a rev counter instead of a clock?

The B-reg's speedo should transfer into the donor dials

Thanks chaps.. is it a worth while swap?

yeah it will make a load of difference as its an extra 30bhp..

I would fit the GT box with it as well as that's one of the things that makes the GT fun:)

Just had a read of your conversion, what could possibly go wrong??

My bready had been in the same family since new and has only done 50.000 miles so I'm struggling with the idea of ripping the engine out and hooning in a 100.000 mile GT engine...

Would this be such a bad thing?

Only 100,000 - should easily do another 50,000.

talk to your insurance company though

You can always put the old engine back in :)

I'm off to look at a possible donor GT in the morning...

It's very easy mate! Just make sure you get the gearbox mount and loom! It's so much fun with the close ratio gear box! Have fun with the swap! I done fine a month ago :)
