Depends when you want it to come on

If you want it to come on with the ignition just wire it to a switched live via a relay

I'm not sure how much current they draw but a relay would be best either way

Not really fussed when it comes on whatever the easy option is ? when you say switched live of the relay you mean I need to use a new one ? sorry for silly question about relay ..

A switched live could be the demister switch for example

You can't run the aerial straight off that switch or you'll blow fuses and melt wires

So you wire the positive terminal of the battery to a new relay, and wire the live from a switch to that

So that when the ignition comes on the relay clicks on allowing the current to flow from the battery to the aerial

You'll also need to earth the relay but the pins should be easy to identify

Ok thanks for your time.

Will I need inline fuse between battery live and relay ?

Yeah I would

With 30amp gauge wire ?

Nah it won't draw 30 amps haha, I would try a 10 amp fuse first, if it blows put something a little more in

alot of head units will have a wire for the elec aerial..roar that onto a relay and it will only come up with the radio

i found they break if its icey out so watch for that

Oh silly me just thought as it 30amp relay that's what it would need ... so pin 30 would be power in from battery with inline fuse ? pin 87 would be to aerial ? and 86 pin to ground ? how about 85 pin on relay ?

Edited by mazraclou

Believe 85 and 86 are your earth and live from the radio/switch

Pin 30 is the battery live and pin 87 is to the aerial

So can i use a toggle switch to activate aerial instead of switch live from when i turn radio on as if i use a cd will be no need to use aerial ?
