I've just bought a one owner, 65k miler 1.9diesel 3 door hatchback in red and thought I'd say hello

It's the first vw I've ever bought and seems like a little charmer so far. There is a slight cough at 1800 - 2000rpm sometimes but it seems to be getting better after a long motorway drive and a bottle of diesel cleaner in half a tank of fuel

The horn stopped working after one toot and the fuse is ok so it could be a dodgy connection in the wheel, other than that it just needs a new document holder (the one covering the fusebox) as one of the hinges has snapped.

My dad had a 1.9 sdi he traded it in with 290K on the clock. Those things run for ever!

put 100ml of cheap mineral 2 stroke oil in it per 50ltr fill up,cleans the injectors and keeps it running smooth.

I have done about 200 miles with some diesel cleaner in the tank (at 4 times the strength it should be) and the misfire seems to have gone, or is at least so feint I can't detect it. I've just filled up and added another bottle of cleaner (twice the recommended dose this time) and will see if it stays hiccup free.

I love a fix for under a tenner

So do you have a Scimitar as well? When I was learning to drive I always wanted a curvaceous purple SE5a but I chickened out when I passed my test and ended up with a relatively modern Polo. The insurance quote for a new driver with 3 litres of grand tourer might have had something to do with it too...
