Started to get painted pieces back from paint bloke -

Engine went back in at night when my mate's two poster was free -

Was all plumbed in and running in no time -

Door vinyls went on -

Started fitting glass and panels next -

Headlining stuck back up into door/window apertures -

Doors and tailgate adjusted up and bolted down - bit of a faff threading wiring through the tailgate but patience and brazing wire saw it done pretty quickly.

Doors built back up -

Wings and bonnet fitted next - proper pain in th'arse to get all the gaps right but got it all something like in the end! -

Looks more complete now but getting dusty really quickly!

Dash and floor stuff went back in next -

Back end built up -

New decals applied -

Bumper, mirrors and arch liners done -

All the plastic trim pieces had been leathered in what seemed to be boot polish by the previous owner, it looked patchy and shit. Took a lot of rubbing with thinners to get it off, and looked half decent after some boiled linseed oil was applied. All the bits were then fitted.

Roof trims went on next -

Then got stuck in to the interior. Due to being super busy at work I was down to having only a couple of hours each day at the most.

4 months since fettlings began and it was all but done. Just missed out on VW Action as it wasn't ready on the Friday due to the new rocker gasket weeping oil. Whipped it off on the Saturday morning and gave it a thin bead of black silicone on both sides which cured it. Drove it home for a good clean as its proper dusty at the unit!

Was good to have it back in use again!

All the dust and shite was washed off then I took a few pics -

Still needed to fit the rear badge at this point - didn't find it for a while!

Then put it away in its concrete box and went for a pint -

Began to get super anal cleaning it - just kept finding more dust and polishing shiz!

Still managed to add some mileage between cleaning sessions! -

Similar excessive cleaning was done in the engine bay too - I'll probably get over it with some time....

The badge turned up in a box of polocrap when I sorted my spares hoard at the unit in October.

Was duly clipped into place finally completing the back end 6 weeks after the rest of it was done!

Got a bit of use out of it until the roads were salted at the end of November

This brings us almost up to date - just under 500 miles since built.

Bought a new scuttle cover from VW Heritage -

They also supplied me with a genuine back box to replace the badly fitting pattern one I bought earlier this year -

These are on the list of stuff to do for when it gets warmer!

Cheers dude! Part number is C867-819-413. Its intended for a diesel but its the same as a regular one apart from having a layer of foam sound deadening matierial on the underside.

Ran it up to temp and let it idle for half an hour - do this every couple of weeks to keep the battery from dying while its laid up.

Hoping for better weather soon, bored of coldness now!

Been adding to the collection of parts to fit when its back in use again - recent additions include floor mats, rubber mounts for the fuel pump bracket, and a blank key to cut as I only got one with the car. Considering fitting a spare pair of fog lights too.

Undecided as yet!
