Polo 6n2 2001 3 Door Drivers Side Window Not Working! Need help!

Featured Replies

I am having massive trouble with my drivers side electrical window in my polo 6n2.

I have tried many things:

- a new switch has been bought

- a new motor and regulator has been bought

- a mechanic thinks its the connector pins that is the problem but I think otherwise as the drivers side and passenger side cable connectors are interchangeable. The passenger side window works fine in either slot on the switch therefore implying to me that the switch is working fine. The mechanic also said that there was nothing wrong in the way I installed the motor and regulator.

- This would then lead me to believe that it was connector pins on the drivers side window motor cable that are inserted into the switch that are faulty. However, the first day I bought the motor and regulator I installed it and it was working perfectly with no implications at all, until I switched off the car, came back to it started her up and then since then no movement at all from the motor or regulator.

- The mechanic said that the cables are all fine in the rubber tubing coming from where the door hinges are, so no deterioration in the cables there, possibly ruling out an electrical interference.

- Also, when holding the key down in the door I can close the windows when locking ( i think its called deadlocking?), and open the windows when unlocking. When I do this I get a response from the passenger side and that is working fine, but again nothing from the drivers side.

- Whenever I try and use the switch and the holding down key trick in the door lock I can hear a couple of clicks supposedly coming from the motor in the drivers side door. This lead to me thinking ti is perhaps caught on something not letting it move down? Yet i cant think or see of anything that could be restricting its movement?. Also, the window is up all the way fine but not lining up with the weather stripping on the outside of the door panel. THIS IS CAUSING LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER TO COME FLOODING IN WHENEVER IT RAINS!!!

NEED HELP URGENTLY AS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Forum.

From reading your post, it seems to me that your problem could well be connected to the last item that you mention, namely that the glass does not touch the weatherseal.

Suggest that you remove the mechanism, test the motor on a battery to double check that it is OK and then investigate as to why the glass does not reach the seal - it could well be that the guide channels are out of alignment, or even that the glass is on the wrong side of the channel. If this is the case, the poor old motor certainly wouldn't be able to move the glass.

Regards.

I'm also having a problem with my windows, and was wondering if you could shed some light??..

Neither passenger or driver window will go down when using switch on drivers door, although passenger window will

Operate from passenger switch

But when I do the unlock/lock thing with the keys, both windows go down, which suggests to me mechanisms are working correctly, then both windows will go up from drivers switch.. Does this sound like drivers switch is a bit dodgy and needs replacing, thanks for any help :D

You could well have a switch problem, but there may also be high resistance or poor connection(s). A suspect area is always in the converluted conduit (Near the door hinges) especially on the drivers side, as this gets most use and tends to suffer from fatigued cables after long use.

Regards (I'm an ex Harrogate man myself - well, Burnt Yates actually)

Check door fuses. Sounds like you might of blew a fuse when changing regulator. or could be a faulty regulator.

Check guide rails and seals and internal switch connections, and wiring at door hindge as above.

Cheers for all the comments I am going to try the fuses tomorrow and I think its worth trying to remove the motor and regulator to check the condition of it once more. Also probably will take the window switch apart tomorrow aswell to check for any of the grim green stuff

If you here the clicking then loud vibrating like there is something obstructing it from going up. I would bet that its the regulator/motor. I bought one of a guy from ebay comes in one piece all connected to 2 runners. you just undo the 4 bolts of the runners and angle it out the door and fit the new one.

I had the same bother as you but I thought it would be a good idea to take apart the motor and spray it, not a good idea. lol..

Good luck, its not good weather for having a fecked window.

I also got my regulator and motor off a guy on ebay lol but it looks exactly like the original one. I have checked fuses and switch seems to be absolutwly fine with no green stuff. The problem now is getting rhe motor and regulator out of the door panel whoh may take some work as I cant lower the window to get to the regulator clamps to remove the glass. I will hwve yo try this tomorrow as I have work now. Will update tomorrow

I have had this problem, spent yesterday figuring out how to take the motor out (after drilling three holes into the metal work!) and I decided to take the motor apart (as previous poster, LOL) what a nightmare, the motor was totally seized so i forced a few turns, sprayed WD40 everywhere and it spun with no friction. However, could I hell get the damn thing back together again, and to add to this, the cables fell out of the spinner part! Anyway got it all back together, although the window goes down, it now wont go up lol. The passenger sides also broken but it ticks when pressing up and down, but the drivers side only ticks / works when going down.

Any ideas if the problem might be the switch or the motor?

Sorry to hear that mate, I did tell you :D , mine chew up all the cable lol.. when mine was on its way out it would only go down, but I could hold the up button and with a forcing hand the window would go up. After all that fecking about on mine I just replaced the Regulator/Motor and it worked. I take it the passenger side works ok with its own switch?

I'm going to relocate the switches to the blanks in the centre console. I think my driver side is on the way out again but i think its the switch this time.

sounds like power/ connection to the up switch???

Let me know if you get this sorted mate.

Hi, quick question, sorry for potentially hijacking thread here, but are 3 and 5 door regulators the same for X reg polo?

Regards, Damien

All sorted guys. The problem was not with the electrical connectors or swtich or the motor or regulator. All I needed to do was to force one of the black clips further onto the metal on the door. Once I did this it meant that the cables were completely out of the way. IT WAS ONE OF THE REGULATOR CABLES THAT WAS NOT LETTING IT GO DOWN. Since doing this eveything has been working perfectly.

Yes the motors and regulators are the same for an X reg but be careful to make sure to order the motor and regulator for a 3 or 5 door depending which version you have as the 5 door ones are slightly smaller.

everyone experiencing odd issue that can't be explained, first check that the switch and morot and regulator works then double and triple check to make sure the cables are out of the way. Honestly I solved my problem due to the cable being around 1cm too far forward.

Alrite Fellas,

I'm having kinda the same trouble with my drivers side window (it just doesnt do anything up or down) but i can still control the passenger side albeit you have to wiggle the switch but it does work eventually. My drivers side motor doesnt make a noise or vibrate or anything! Any clues would be greatly appreciated? Also if i lock the car whilst sat in it and want to get out when i press the unlock button all the other doors apart from the drivers unlock fine and can be used as normal however the drivers door wont budge? Its like its been deadlocked so i then have to climb out the passenger door lock and unlock the car again so that i am able to enter my own vehicle! Any help with these matters would be greatly appreciated!!!
