Just a general question. When buying on line how much similarity is there between the early golfs and pools. How much of the early engines and undercarriage are the same? When ordering parts for my 1991 GT coupe they may not be available under a particular search whereas they may be under a different model.

Very little is shared between a GT and a Golf. Golfs never got the 3F "GT" engine in this country.

Apart from a few bits of trim, all that springs to mind is brake discs/pads/calipers on the lower spec Golfs that didn't get vented brakes and suspension top mounts.

rear bearings , door handles , front brakes , clutch , alternator , water pump , sump , starter motor

look at mk2 1300 or mk3 1400
