small change today regarding the oil return

as its an AAV block the returns are different so a quick join was made

20151107_134122_zpshqdj28np.jpg

as you can see it has kinked and hampers the flow. the adjustment is a solid joiner between the gt pipe to the oil seperator to keep it ligned up. this was then covered with a rubber pipe as normal and secured by jubilee clips and cable ties between the clips to stop movement

What were your reasons on keeping the AAV block? You should have used one of the 3F blocks you have had lol or do you plan forced induction in the future?

  • Author

Just to keep things simple really, declairing the new engine requires paperwork for its origin and fitment if i recall

If the blue gt hadnt had a shot engine i'd have used that.

The black gt may donor us block and head in the future

The AAV block isn't 'that' far off a 3F block anyway. 9.5:1 compression for the AAV compared to 10:1 on the 3F.

Any idea what kind of power you're getting from this now?

i figured with the gt setup i'd be about 2-3bhp worse off than a full conversion. As for current power i have no idea, yet to set the vernier pulley up and find the sweet spot on the cam to warrent a dyno visit.

Don't really like to put figures about without the proof though as it always a case of 'the one that got away'. in terms of matching other cars, it pulled away from a 2l focus, mk5 golf gt. Even then you have to factor in whether the driver is actually a car person and was using the power band effectivly, so i keep a ball park in mind of where the car sits but i wouldn't put it as fact as they could have had a boot full of stuff or running issues.

i think the weight advantage plays a huge part, i'm effectivly 400kg better offf then most cars on the road even modern hatches

I would be very interested in finding out. Maybe we can all go to a rolling road day and we can compare a poor stock AAV to it [emoji6]

I do miss the solid reliability days of the stock AAV, years of fautless running

none of this gt sensor issues and bad pressure regs, constant idle set up to compensate for some for of problem. there is a price to pay

Dont put me off now haha

Buy a G40, then you'll know what it is like to have real Polo issues!

yeah i've heard, boost pipes, belts charger rebuilds. then theres the g40 tax too

Boost is awesome though!

I must be really lucky! (?) Aside from a dodgy charger rebuild last year, I've never had any G40 specific reliability issues to contend with.

Brilliant thread this! Love the amount of work you've put into this!

Thanks, i keep on going despite people telling me to sell it and get a modern more powerful car

Some more old pics, it spent alot of time in my garage having bits done to it in the past. At one point 8 months solid, I always made sure to put a fresh mot and tax on it before starting any major work

passed an mot, no advisories

i've moved back to the 200cc injectors as the 249cc are a little more than my engine is calling for in its current state. also disconected the oil catch tank at the mo to see what the pressure in the engine is like without it

still annoyed about kerbing the alloy still i'll show you the refurb when it happens. car needs a realy good wax though as its looking its age

Love the picture with the ladders, there was a mk2 bready that a welder owned at my old work which was a pure work horse. Ladders, welding equipment and other garage/diy tools in it

Should get a big lock for the steering wheel and have nothing on show too, they probably wont waste time trying to break in then, knobs eh.
