Silver GTI

Featured Replies

Thought I'd share my (slow) build on my GTI.

Engine is a 1.6 16v as you know. It has a bit over 100k miles on it. It was somewhat nicely taken care of, except the odd paint chips here and there.

What I've made so far:

- Installed fuel flap lock, it was missing somehow.

- Rebuilt boot floor, because it had a super heavy structure made by previous owner to accommodate a larger spare tire. It had paint covering the codes sticker (thanks for that). Made me wonder if it was rear ended but I removed mosf of the carpets and found no evidence whatsoever of that.

- Changed the door speakers to a couple of Pioneer's, and a simple Sony Mp3 head-unit

- Removed the original antenna and replaced it with a shark fin, and color coded it with some Motip paint.

- Got it a newer GTI badge grill (original was missing), since the boot badges are not the originals either, so now they match at least.

- LED plate lights and city lights

- Polished all the windows, side mirrors and the sun roof window.

- Installed new tires at the back. Continental Sport Contact 2. Nice on dry surfaces, but I am yet to find out how they are on the wet as it hasn't rained in Portugal for more than a month.

- Replaced steering oil (as you can see the bottle on the interior photo).

Here are a few pictures.

Future plans:

- Depo Power Look Headlights (already waiting for them)

- GTI rear spoiler (or a similar one)

- Repaint Wheels with a darker color like gunmetal or something along those lines

- Repaint brake calipers; maybe blue like R line or R32s. Opinions needed on that.

- Slight lowering (streets are shit here so cant lower it much, maybe 10-15mm)

We will see.

Hope you guys like it!

Cheers

Hey m8,

Nice GTI,

You know that your car is already lowered (compared to non-GTI's) ?

Weeks ago i got the offer for a best conditioned 99 GTI with 40k km.

Was driven by an old lady and the next owner had the plan to keep the car till it is a youngtimer, than he has got an original GTI with low milage.
Everywhere and also beneath the car was that clean, you could eat from it.

For 6k Euros it could have been mine.

Indeed i guess the car was worth that price, if you would have seen these pictures.... but i cannot affort that....

Otherwise i would have a black 2door low milage original conditioned and original equipted mk4 GTI limited in my garage....

you cannot have everything....

I hope you have a lot of fun with your gti, keep it.

cheers

Hey there,

Yes I am aware they are already lowered by comparison, thats why I said it wouldn't be by much.

Mine has a somewhat dirty engine bay, at least when compared to my G40. I need to power wash it or something. For less than 6k euros I would have gone with a 6n2 GTI, also 1.6, pretty much full extras. But i too didnt have that much available because I cant seem to sell my G40.

And btw, what used car isnt driven by a old lady/man? :D

Just a quick update.

My new headlights arrived last week, and I finally got around to install them.

Not really oriignal, but I really like them. Another 6N with Depo Black Powerlook, or whatever they are called :D.

Already had spare oil, so I also bought a new oil filter from VW. Going to change both soon.

My roof as paint bubbles, so I am wondering if I should paint it black.
