Rebuilding My Rolling Pooh! (Brown 6n)

Featured Replies

So Earlier this year I bought a Polo 6N (After selling a flawless white polo). Saw this car advertised and instantly fell in love with it. Drove 250 Miles to pick it up with the guy who bought my old car (Good friend called Joe) and drove home.

On the first day of having it the nearside wheel snapped 3 bolts and halted me in Nuneaton (about an hour and a half from my house) and I was recovered, Not really been trustworthy of the car since.

Taken her off road and bought myself a Lupo for Winter / Driving until I've finished the Polo.

PICTURES.

Day I went to collect the car.

Was advertised with the wheels and got normal Steelies (told me it was fine to take the Seat Cream ones but then weren't on the car)

Top Left photo is when my car was pulled to a lay by (the police actually helped for once) and Me waiting for Recovery, (ps. the handbrake was broken by the recovery guys, They somehow snapped the weld connection so It looks like it's about to take a swan dive. and my new seats are installed in the bottom picture)

It came with the most disgusting roof vinyl ever.

This was the supposed stance too

So anyways. I realised things aren't all about looks and this car ran amazing from Wales - Nuneaton (Used about £10 worth of fuel if that) and that this car was worth putting the money back into.

Gave her a clean up, Removed all stickers bar a Club Polo. and the Roof Vinyl (The roof underneath is blue....) cleaned the inside, Stripped out the 6N2 Interior (I have it in my garage, It's collecting mould from being trapped in a garage, If anyone would be interested in it, I'll sell it for £70 ONO. (can get pictures if you PM) changed the headlining and bought a Full Leather interior (Bargain price, a little tear in it)

Not So Fresh

So My Plans.

  • Bought some new Coilovers and remove the Springs
  • Got a Reconned gearbox for a really good offer, has done 5K since recondition
  • New gear Selector as the one at the minute in the car is really playing up.
  • Remove HID's (They keep cutting out and I'm not a fan)
  • New Exhaust because previous owner smashed the cat out of the Jap-can he put on and it sounds shit, And stupidly loud so It's getting replaced with a Side exit I managed to get off of someone from here!
  • Full Sand Down / Reweld, Both sils need replacing (Brand new sils cost me £80) and theres bits of rust here and there I want to get rid of. Respray in a really nice colour (I will get photos)
  • 6N2 Dash (was debating taking the one out of the lupo but I'm going to be using the lupo after the polo is done.
  • New Wheels, I really like the Bullet steels, and with the colour scheme I'm going for I'm thinking of a nice Cream colour will sit on the car really nice.
  • Install my new doors and fit an Electric window setup (new doors were electric windows and I picked them and a bonnet up for £65, Didn't realise they were electric windows until I got home as it was 2AM when I picked them up)

I refuse to throw loads of stickers on the car after a re-spray. I want a really clean nice on the eyes 6N that isn't the usual sticker bombed to the eyeballs.

If anyone has any Ideas please feel free to throw them In. It's my first time Rebuilding any vehicle so If theres people around willing to help, Or even to give me advice that would be pretty sweet. I'm a banging Brew maker.

Heres my Daily at the minute (85K, full MOT, Service, I'm really starting to grow on liking the colour and It was only £650)

Cheers :)

I think I remember a thread you put up when you bought this. Thought you'd of scrapped it to be honest. Look forward to seeing updates.

Was really tempted to scrap it. Like I nearly did it the 3rd day of having the car. But I bit my tongue and thought I better actually salvage her instead of Scrapping. No matter the costs she will be done! ( I hope its not over £3000)

Got some pictures of the Roof (Took the vinyl off this morning, About 45 minutes worth of work!)

Back Bench + Seats :) No tears or rips, These and the front seats cost me £120!

Front Seats, There's a little bit where the seam has gone on the drivers side, But I'm gonna get it tailored back pretty soon or just sew it up myself!

Coilovers need a good taking apart, cleaning and freeing up.

Gear Selector. My old one is getting really hard to put into gears so I bought this and the Gearbox for £150

I have to put most of the stuff inside the car as My brother has a Moped that he puts in the garage aswell, (unfortunately I'm not allowed to work in the garage because It's not licensed too)

Plans. Strip the dashboard out. strip the seats and carpet out again, empty everything out and send it off to a friend to do all the bodywork on the car (New sils, derust all the inside and out. Make sure the bottom is solid then re Tetrosyl the bottom. Get my Side exit installed and take out the engine, Prep for Respray!
