Lowering Springs - 6N2

Featured Replies

Apologies for posting this, I cannot seem to get a clear understanding and a final answer out of any of the threads/topics I have read.

F.Y.I, I have a 6N2 1.0L.

I want to lower the car, nothing ridiculous (not slam) just a nice lower as I play in bands and travel alot and occasionally with passengers front and back. I have not done anything like this before so I needed some decent advice.

I also live in the country so I wouldn't be able to have it stupid low. I wanted to drop the front by maybe 50 and the rear by 40, I think it would look like a nice drop where it would be practical too.

I have two questions. Could I have some strong reccomendations for lowering springs (with links) (also if I need them, with shock kits) and would I need to buy anything else apart from the springs themself i.e shocks, extra parts? (I'm new to this)

I run refurbed 13" VW steels at the moment.

Very much appreciated!

I'm also after some lows, but the pot holes and road humps are making me think twice.

From the info iv gathered the lowering springs are ok, but you need shortened shock absorbers to go with them as the stock ones will be too long and wont work effectively. If you add the price of both of these up, you can buy some cheap £200 FK etc. coilovers which are adjustable.

"Designed to be used with uprated sports dampers suitable for this lowering amount."

Someone on here might have this setup and could comment on the ride quality, but id imagine it would be better than using the adjustable coilovers.

The other issue iv heard a lot is going 45mm front and 35 rear (not 50 40 as you wanted) is that you can hardly tell.

Id be interested to know if anyone has problems getting around with pot holes and road humps going that low.

Cheers Chris, appreciate it.

I agree with the 35 - 45, I could't have it too lower as where I live have horrible pot holes and humps. I just want to get it down a bit as the current ride height feels like a bus. That's why I wanted to go 35-45, also I quite often have passengers and heavy stuff in my boot and do lengthy journeys.

Try the springs then. Easy to fit, but you will have to get the front alignment re-done.

You could always add the shortened shocks at a later date?

If it works out for you this is what i'd be looking at.

What does this mean?

''Designed to be used with uprated sports dampers suitable for this lowering amount.

Not generally suitable for OE Dampers.''

That means the oe shock absorbers wont last long or work very well as they are designed to resist lots of travel which with lowering springs there wont be much. The shortened ones are designed to resist a smaller amount of travel.

If that makes sense.

Basically you need the shock absorbers designed for the lower system. Read my first post again.
