Average speed cameras

Featured Replies

I was drving to Manchester Airport today and I noticed a lot of these. Does anyone have any information on these as I am becoming a little worried as through one of them there was a short period of time I was going 70 instead of 60. I was also traveling at about 55-60 for the other parts.

I know I should just not think about it and hope nothing comes through the post.

Thanks

I am sorry if this is posted a lot.

Inbetween each camera it measures your speed, then the last one gives calculates your speed for the last time, and if your "average" miles per hour was over the speed limit you get a fine.

We have one on the way down to London from where i live but when i went through it both times it was 40mph signs everywhere, everyone does 35mph or so and just drifts along until they are free..

I dont know what the speed is but i know that if you go over a certain speed limit past any of the cameras you'll get fined automatically. so if u go through the first one at 120mph youll get a fine, even if u slow down to 40-50mph or something.

Makes me laugh when people slow down for the camera and then speed up between them.

I know this is going to be predicable, but the only advice I can give you is ............................................................... DON'T SPEED!!

If you get a ticket, then it's your own fault.

Harsh???

Too right!!

Please don't think I'm having a go at just you - but I do find it amazing when people who do get caught by speed cameras of whatever description start to moan and whine about the cameras being to blame, when in fact it's actually their own right foot that is the problem..........

Yeah I know it's bad to speed an everything but I don't but on this occaison I overtook for a brief moment at 0mph in a 60. There was no flash on the lights each side of the camera above the road but I don't think that means anything.

How long does it usually take to get a ltter through about these?

btw Keith- i understand. I am usually the one saying don't speed if you don't want to get cuaght etc etc but on this occaison I was a bit silly overtaking at 60mph+ but I see it as unsafe ovetaking slowly.

if you only hit 60 to overtake for a few seconds and you werent breaking the speed limit for any other time, I'd say you'll get away with it. Its what they were designed for - the average speed will average out in that case. of course if you were slightly over the speed limit at all other times it may be enough to push you into the "fine zone" on the average speed.

bare in mind also that they will typically have a +/- of 5% leeway they'll give u on you are speed.

I still think I will have been caught. The aim of this thread was just to find out if there is a way to find out if you've been caught before the letter comes.

I did some research and apparently there is no way of knowing. I shall just hope that nothing comes through in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the help

joerog - if you were only over the limit for a few seconds compared with being at/under the limit for minutes, then you should be fine. And I agree about overtaking - you do it and get back into your lane ASAP - if it means breaking the speed limit momentarily and only slightly, then I wouldn't get on your back about it.

But you will just have to wait and see....................

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, Keith.

Another thing is to take into account is that there were about 4 or 5 of the camera set ups in the space of a couple of miles or so. I only overtook and went above the limit just before the last one. I am pushing it if it only measures between 2 of the cameras (As there was one each side of the small villages). It could also work in my favour in that it measures the average speed across the whole distance of about 2 miles. If that is understood?

It has been a week and one day now but I am not getting my hopes up at all. It's certainly scared me into never speeding, that's for sure.

Why dont you just buy road angel plus? Me and paul picked up one a few days ago and wickd, it even picks up mobile camera vans.

Saved my bacon in the last few days
