As said previously I'm taking a short break from the car, hopefully when I return to it I aim to do the following:

1: New Distributor & Rotor Arm

2: Clean Thottle Body

3: Smoked Side Indicator Lenses

4: Dark Angel Eyes the H1 variants, won't be fitting the rings to side light as they are weak, will just be using the 501 LEDs

5: 6000k HID

So my mechanic had a once over on the car, the reason it's shutting off and the knocking noise is due to the fact that a seal between the drive shaft and gearbox has damaged and lost fluid and god knows how long ago that happened, more or less the gearbox is damaged and needs replacement. For now I can only replace the fluid and seal and run it until I can source another gearbox.

Finally had some time and most importantly sunshine. Made a start with the spare wheel, which turns out isn't the spare wheel but an old puncture that was replaced with the spare. I noticed the wheel pattern was different, that of a Golf MK3. So here's the start of a week of refurbing.

Final Rub Down Will Resume Tomorrow and Paint, will repeat this process 3 times so won't post the same pictures per wheel. Will upload the end result. Watch this space I hope to have all wheels painted and on the car by Friday/Saturday.

First Wheel Done! 8) just the hubcap left, didn't bother masking this one because it's already a flat and will be replaced soon.

God willing the weather will be better this week, only decent forecast I've seen is tomorrow, the rest of the week is heavy rain until Monday or so :-(

Weather has been horrible in London this week, only managed to complete one wheel and four hub caps.

Not Lowered One Bit, may keep her that way looks nice & practical of course.

Swear people don't realize these have pollen filters don't think mine had been changed since the day it left the factory it was a state!

I like that bright reverse light! where you get it from?

Hi

I have this car and was wondering if someone could explain how to change the pollen filter and where to get a new one.

Also where did you get the wind deflector things fro, they look good ?

Cheers

The pollen filter is located here:

remove the rubber strip and remove the plastic panel, then take out the filter from the tray.

shame your selling :( I painted my steels when I first got mine, although I didn't do half the sanding and stuff you have, which has resulted in the nastiest mismatched rustiest wheels you can imagine haha. good little guide though mate!

Enjoy the Audi :D

Thanks for that.

Do I have to remove the wipers? And also I heard that the clips on the plastic panel always break? Is that true?

Indeed a shame! If my family wasn't expanding I would have either repaired it or replaced it with another Polo. I've made the mistake of painting on rusty wheels in the past, lasted only 1 week, paint started to flake off n started to look like the 'rat-look'.

No, the panel is conveniently away from the wipers. easy swap.

OK cool thanks I'll have a poke about tomorrow and probably end up breaking something!

Its just that I don't think mines ever been changed (its a 96 car)

I have a copy of the 20k service, (which I believe is when its supposed to be first changed) .... But they've just written n/a beside pollen filter.... So I imagine mine probably looks like the one in your picture!

haha! Good luck mate.

Haha well, good news and bad. I managed to find it... But broke both the plastic clips off in the process!

It seems secure enough without them, anyway!

Cleared out loads of mulch so water drains out much better now.

Pollen filter was filthy so I cleaned / hoovered it out as a temporary measure. Now to eBay to look for a new one!

  • Author

oh the dreaded mulch! Had a small tree growing in mine haha!! try sourcing from euro car parts, they sell them cheaper than most places, plus you may get it on sale.

Blew the headgasket & wheel bearings seized and shattered.

Sad.

Farewell.

:sorry:
