Hi, posting this on behalf of a friend, he bought the polo from Bognor Regis (350 miles from home!) and this is his first change of many which he is planning.

This is how it looked when he picked it up:-

Needless to say it was looking sorry for itself and had a major oil leak leaving him stranded in Bognor Regis for several hours trying to find an oil filter, which would replace the one on it which had a huge hole where it had rusted through.

He finally arrived back home after a 350 mile journey with the warning buzzer going off, which turned out to be a loose wire to the oxygen sensor.

Few weeks later he went to look at these:-

He bought some AVO front shocks and 40 mm lowering springs all round as his new wheels where 2" smaller. We got the shocks, springs and wheels fitted last Saturday. I think the end result looks awesome!

The rear shocks do need replacing as the wheel scrubs on the arch, so some stiffer ones are needed! the front arches are going to need widening so if anyone has any suggestions that would be really helpful for him, all we can think of is getting some universal ones and make them fit.

i would argue that the stance is awsome as there is about 3 inch gap upfront and rears are pretty low, if it were me instead of looking at new springs for rears i would get a set for the front (y) however with reguards to the rear scrubbing try cambering the rear slightly, that should help with scrubbing,

with the the fronts i had 7j smoors and when lowered they will come in a bit, mine i managed to tuck with camber adjustable top mounts, which are easily the best method!

its been lowered 40mm front and rear i think the front wheel is in a puddle in the picture will get a better picture next time i see him.

Took us 5 hours to decide on the best way to do it and get the basic shape, that's it for now let me know what you think of it so far.

Good for you! That looks like a neat little job. Just make sure that there is enough fibreglass inside the wing to bond it on without it cracking off.

Just a small update to keep this topic alive finally got the passenger side arch to a point where it looks 1/2 decent (going to strip the paint back and finish it properly in summer when the filler will set properly). Here's what it looks like now:

Not perfect i know but at least its legal now!

Also he's ordered these to stiffen the rear and stop the wheel scrubbing on the arch!

Then the lowering springs can go back in the rear should get done next week hopefully!

Got a bit of a big job list forming now, Looks something like this:

1. Fix foot well leak (any guidance will be much appreciated)

2. Front drivers side arch needs built up.

3. Rear shocks and lowering springs are to fit.

4. Need to source a MK2f to cut the servo out of the bulk head, get some uprated calipers and convert the brakes.

5. Thinking about making our own custom stainless steel exhaust. Anyone done this before? Will it be possible to do? (My friend who owns the car is a plumber)

6. Once handling and stopping is sorted it needs more power looking at a GT cam and bike carbs for now or may drop a 1.4 16v in at a later date.

7. De-bumper or not de-bumper. That is the question.

8. Once all body work is done its respray time!

well was all going pretty sweet until tonight we had just finnished his spotlights we had fitted his rear shocks and had a gt lump waiting to be dropped in then he went to set his spotlight heights and something rather upsetting occured

this was before the 'event' /\

so yeah not good.

He would like to know if anyone has an old mk2 polo which they will sell pretty cheap or that he can steal the front end off: passenger wing; innerwings; front panel; bonnet
