Firstly hello, my name is James and I'm from Cornwall. I am the proud owner of a Candy White 1.2 Moda, which I will get to, but first a little on my "car history".

So I've always been into cars, and in the past few years I developed a sort of affiliation to Volkswagens, I don't really know why, I just liked them more than any other brand. So naturally I had to have one once I passed my test. What I got at first was rather different. I passed my test around march 2013 and as I was still in school, didn't have a job and in truth, didn't really need a car my parents agreed to put me on the insurance of their Clio. It was a brilliant little car, had a 1.2 16 valve engine in it and actually was quite nippy. It handled like a little puppy and thus it will always hold a place in my heart. So anyway, times move on and things change. Earlier this year I decided school was no longer for me, having done a year of A-levels and really not put in much effort at all I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to get away from education and move into working, I sat and had a think about what I'd like to do and decided I'd like to go into engineering and thus got myself an apprenticeship. My parents had always told me that once I got employment, I would be given a car as a sort of present, a send off into the big wide world of work if you like. The search began and I immediately started looking at VWs. First thoughts were either a Lupo or a Polo. There unfortunately weren't any decent Lupos for sale in a reasonable radius from where we live at the time so the attention turned to Polos. I found this Polo up for sale at a price which was not too good to be true, but it was very reasonable given the age of the car and the spec. I got in touch with the sellers asap and discovered the car was being sold as the owners were moving away to Ibiza and didn't want a RHD car in a LHD country and also didn't want to leave it at home being unused. A deal was done and I was very happy.

A couple months went by and I having seen a few really nice modded 6Rs online (including some on this very forum) I decided I needed to do something. But the car is still under warranty until April of next year, and I didn't want to risk voiding that so I thought I'd buy some wheels and that would be it. Problem was, I got a little too hasty and bought the first set I saw come up for sale near me. The wheels I bought were really cheap (only £130 plus 4 tyres) but that meant they're not in good condition. I think they're TT wheels, I'm not sure. Also they're 18's and look comically over-sized on my little polo. None-the-less I tried a couple on anyway:

But a fair bit of poke upfront, again could be fixed by smaller and stretched tyres:

But the fact remained, the still look way too big. So the decision was made to refurb the wheels and then sell them on (which I have yet to complete because it's cold and I'm not up for sitting in a cold dark garage on my own sanding paint!). I'm taking them back to the original primer, to them filler them where needed and spray them back up probably in the original silver:

So not much has happened in the past month, I did have a little bump unfortunately. Didn't do too much damage to my car, only £150 to repair the bumper:

And that's about it. Wind deflectors have been ordered and should be here sometime next week. From now though I reckon the best plan is to just save and save until April, when I then might have a little splash out on some coilovers and better wheels that actually fit!

Thanks for reading. Any advice on the refurb of the wheels is appreciated because it's the first time I've ever done anything like that, and I'm just going on basic instinct and what I've seen others do!

Not the most technical video but fun to watch.

I think the wheels would look good in white, white on white always goes well they're just a pain to keep clean!

If I was to keep the wheels for myself then I'd go for something a bit different, maybe like a bronze or something. But I'm not, the fact is I just don't like how big they look on the polo, so they'll be sold on and I need to spray them a colour which will make them most desirable when I put them up for sale, thus I think silver is a safe bet.

Bit of an update required, copied from another forum so bare with me on the formatting, I can't change it unfortunately :/

Been way too long since I updated this, not that there's much to write anyway.

It looks like the last thing I mentioned on here was the RS4's I bought, that weren't actually genuine RS4's and were in dreadful condition. So dreadful in fact that I gave up on them, sold them back on for a £50 loss but it was money back in my pocket which hadn't been there for a few months so I was happy enough.

Next up came wind deflectors, nothing too expensive or exciting, fitted in like 2 minutes during a college lunchtime but I like them so I'd consider them a good purchase.

Then came the bluemotion grill. Wow this was a bitch to find, when I was looking there never seemed to be any to be found on Ebay, and the retail price from VW seemed extortionate given it's just a bit of plastic. So over I went to German Ebay in the hope of finding something, as it happened I came across a company who seem to sell genuine, new VW parts at a fraction of the price that a dealership would ask. I found the grill, made the purchase and it sat for 2 months in the corner of my room doing nothing.



Finally decided to put it on a couple weeks ago after removing the bluemotion badge, instantly loved it. I think it makes the front end look a bit sleeker especially with the gloss black of it.



Thought we may as well debadge the rear whilst we were at it as well, tidies up the rear end nicely

And that leads us onto the latest purchase, a set of Alpha teledials



They popped up in Plymouth for an okay price but I noticed they hadn't sold in a while, and the price kept going down. So I made the guy an offer, he took me up on it and that evening I was headed over them to see what I had bought. All appear in very good condition, minor curb marks here and there and some bubbling on the paint in areas but not too bad. They're 16x6.5 and whilst I'm unsure of exact offset the internet seems to suggest it's somewhere in the regions of 30-38 (anyone who knows please enlighten me!) so overall not very wide and gonna give pretty poor fitment, however I'm not too bothered because the car is still standard height. PCD is 5x98 so should be no problem with wobble bolts, or when it comes to getting better fitment, adapters can kill two birds with one stone there.

Little update, still not much happening because I'm waiting on September when I get my years no claims and can actually afford to declare stuff on insurance (not gonna risk running undeclared on this). However, there's a couple things to report.

Firstly I tinted my fogs - purple! Not to everyone's taste and I'm certainly not gonna win any awards in fog-tinting anytime soon because it's a pretty poor job when you look closely but it'll do for now and I like it.





Pictures don't really do the colour justice, it's quite a bit more noticeable in person but you get the idea. Ideally after some blue/red LED fogs lights now to bring out the colour a bit more so if anyone knows where I can get 12v hate blue or red bulbs please let me know!

In the last update I mentioned the Alpha wheels I bought, I'm still not sure if I want to run them because the widths, offset and PCD mean I'm gonna need some custom made adapters which I can afford, but am not sure if they're worth it. However, I can't deny I love how they look when offered up against the car:
