I have recently noticed that my rear passenger footwell is soaked in water.

Only the rear passenger footwell, all other footwell are dry.

Tried to find out where the water could be coming in from (susspected window seals), by using the garden hoes and pouring water over that side of the door.

No leaks could be found.

Checked the sunroof but found the water dispensed ok

Bit confused where the water could getting in from?

The rear seats are dry, the door seal seem ok aswell as the sunroof.

I read somewhere top check the scuttle tray, but surley this would affect the front footwells rather than just the rear passenger?

Any help would be much appreciated

I had a similar thing the other day in the drivers footwell, turns out i'd driven through a deep puddle left from the flood and water had got in that way, could be the case for you?

However; I only seem to be getting the rear passenger (left side) footwell soaked only.

Even after drying out the carpet, as soon as it rains, a day or two later I find the same side soaked again.

The boot, rear seats etc, all dry. Only the footwell is soaked on one side, so I doubt its the rear light.

Was out earlier toady and checked under the scuttle tray, that was dry too. Had a little clean up and made sure the drainage holes were not blocked.

I have now taken up the rear carpet, removed the drenched underlay foam from the car to show the bare metal floor.

I will check to see if I can locate where the water maybe coming in from this way.

Any advise will still be appreciated

A long shot but just take off the door panel, and investigate your rear wiper hose.

I know you have stated the wet only appears after rain however you may have caught the rearer washer or the pipe has cracked etc..

Just a theory hope you find your problem I had very similar!

After some more seraching, I have realised that the front passenger footwell is also soaked.

I susspect the water is coming in from the front left side

In this photo you should be able to see two square cut outs side by side. I think the water is leaking in from here

I had the same problem on a 6n, could be the same. The water that runs off the windscreen goes into the trough where the windscreen wipers and pollen filter is... The drain holes right in the corners were very blocked with dirt and leaves. I cleaned out the pollen filter and decided to take out the filter housing. There I found a large amount of corrosion and perished seals. I guess the water had nowhere to go and has helped corrode a lot of metal around this area and water is getting in behind the bulkead, under the rubber under the front carpet and filled up the rear footwell. I unblocked, cleaned and dried the entire area, applied a shed load of sealent to plug up the holes and reseal the filter housing. I dont know whether it will work, but its definetly where the waters coming from. on the 6n, the glovebox comes out dead easy giving you easy acces to the bulkhead on the inside.

I have checked and cleaned the pollen filter area, and made sure the drain holes were clear. Yet still water gets in!

I now suspect it is coming in from the windscreen seals.

The windscreen is bonded to the bodyshell so it's unlikely to be that

I think that maybe the bond has started to persish, maybe cracks in the bond allowing water to escape through.

I bought some roof sealent and re-sealed at the bottom of the windscreen. There is a plastic shield that I ran the sealent along, as I noticed that there were areas that I can see where not bonded well to the windscreen.

I try tak some pics to show the area.

Will wait and see if this fixes the issue

can I ask has your car got a sun roof if so could well be the drain pipes blocked

I've got a Polo Match reg Sep 2012. It's always had pooling of water on all door sills. Dealer says it's 'model specific' and fobs me off. In January it wasn't driven for 3 weeks during a heavy prolonged spell of rain and I've now found driver floor well carpet is soaking especially in the middle and under the clutch pedal. My question is... Can this be the door and internal cabin seals , air conditioning leak or water ingress from bonnet? It's going into main dealer under warranty but I fear they will not clear the fault. Please help with any suggestions. Thank you

Yees my car has a sunroof, I have already checked the drain holes and found that they were not blocked

Check where the sunroof drain pipes connect to the sunroof. Youll probably have to pull the roof lining down. On mine the plastic bit that the drain pipe connects to had come away slightly from the sunroof so water was coming thru there and leaking down to behind the dash as well as down where the seat belt is. Just had to silicone it up. Took ages to find tho.

Hi. I have the same problem of a leak. It was there last year but was only damp in front passenger side. This year with the bad rain I have noticed the back passenger well is flooded with water. When I drove the water would flow back and clearly visible. I had removed most of surface water with clothes and mops. I had then lifted up front passenger carpet and under lay and lots of water visible. The pictures you show look exactly like my problem. Someone mentioned the rear wiper screen pipe could be leaking. I have to check this out. I tried to remove external cover at wipers to source leak but couldn't find anything. I need to investigate it better.

Any ideas where to start.....????

I had the same problem on my wifes 6n 16v except it was on the drivers side and it was the rear that was wetter but this is is a bit of a red herring as the rear is slightly lower than the front. I found the drains for the sunroof blocked and thought it was that but it still leaked, so went through all the above suggestions. However it was the front mud flaps dirt had got behind them and blocked the drains so took them off and cleaned all the mud out and this solved the problem so if you have front mud flaps take a look.

I have the same problem but on the drivers side. I thought it was getting in from the bonnet release cable as the drain under the plastic wiper motor cover was blocked, but clearing it didn't help. I waited for the heavens to open and removed the glove box so i could get a good look (with some contortion) and it was dripping onto the the bonnet release from the bottom of the windscreen, i removed the inner door seal and trim by the windscreen and watched it run down the inside of window. So i put it in the garage, and poured water onto the gutter by the windscreen and there it is. Seal looks good, bit of mould i have cleaned off, but i can't see why it is so bad. I am going to fill that gap under the gutter rubber trim by the windscreen and see if that stops it.

Under the floor of the car there is a Chanel that runs from front to back, one on each side, when I pulled up one of the rubber seals on the floor, I found about 2 inches of standing water in this channel, looked under the car to find the hole that drains this channel was completely blocked, poked it through with a screw driver, my car pissed water for about half an hour and now everything is dry, no more wet footwells, job done!

It's hard to explain without pictures but in the first picture you put up, it's the middle seal on the flat bit of the floor, pull that up and you will probably find a nice amount of water just sitting there, unclog the hole, it's about 8mm and directly beneath that seal. That should sort it

Would you be able to post a picture of the location of these drain holes under the car as I suspect mine might be blocked?
