1W/MN diesel engine information

Featured Replies

I'm looking for any available information in relation to either 1W/MN diesel engines, mainly with regard to timing and torque figures.

Some documented manuals would be good to see.

Cheers

Bit confused by "timing" as a a diesel has no spark.

Suppose it still has a cambelt.

Brilliant, thanks for that!

No spark, but injection timing is crucial to deliver the fuel at the right time!

Fairly confident with the pump timing, but can't find a single timing reference on either of the cam pulleys (one either end) nor on the crank pulley. The cam pulleys also tighten up against a taper and don't use a woodruff key so again awkward to line up without some documented specs.

Thanks again.

The valves will still have to open at the right time in the combustion cycle. So the cam sprocket will have to be timed up to the crank sprocket

The fuel pump if mechanical which it is with them engines will also have to be timed up to the crank so that it squirts fuel into the right cylinder at the right time as these weren't common rail engines

Aye, but unfortunately there are no timing marks whatsoever, so may have to get the dial gauge out...

There's a timing mark on the pump pulley but nothing on the others!

Hello

I'm with the same problem in a Polo 1.4D (1W).

There is a mark on the pump pulley.

The cranckshaft is guided by the fly wheel mark.

The camshaft is the problem. There are no marks. Pulleys when loosened are free, because there is no keyway on both sides.

I can't understand.

I would appreciate some help.

Regards

The camshaft is locked in position with a bar into a slot @ the other end of the camshaft

These things direct or indirect injection & what injector pump do they run ?

If its indirect & running a bosch pump chances are it will run on veg oil & bio no problems & being a earlier indirect & mechanical pump should mean its easily tuneable via the fuel injector screw & boost screw from the pump & turbo

I bought the So wird's gemacht book which shows the timing procedure and I made the tools needed. Like Nige side, a flat bar in the pump end of the camshaft with piston 1 at TDC sets the camshaft timing, then tighten the bolt for the main camshaft pulley.

A pin through the pump pulley locks the pump at TDC. Then simply fit the pulley to the pump end of the camshaft with the pump pulley locked and tension with a bar and tighten the camshaft bolt up.

If its indirect ... from the pump & turbo

turbo?

Not as standard but probably not impossible. .

If its indirect & running a bosch pump chances are it will run on veg oil & bio no problems & being a earlier indirect & mechanical pump should mean its easily tuneable via the fuel injector screw & boost screw from the pump & turbo

Naturally aspirated but would indeed most likely run veg oil.
