Just passed driving test... Looking for a 6n2 (Help)

Featured Replies

Hi guys (and girls),

Just passed my driving test and I thought I would start off on the forum asking about 6n2's in general. If anyone is selling one let me know and I can check it out. Probably looking at a 1.4 petrol...

Any advice on when going to check one out... Common faults? Things to look out for? How to identify problems? etc....

Any/ all info is appreciated.

Cheers,

Jeevsz

Id go for a 1litre as it will be cheaper on insurance.

Look out for gearbox issues

Pedal Box's

Regular servicing

Along with all the general stuff to look out for;

Test hard braking

Full lock each way

All electrics

Oil leaks

Mayo in Oil

No bad repairs

Power steering

etc...

Ahhh right... anyone got any experience with them 1.0 engines. I was chatting to a mechanic and he said they have a few issues and end up going funny, and that the 1.4 is a safer bet. Probably gonna end up getting one of them black box insurance deals anyway.

Cheers for the list, I will be sure to check all that stuff... anything else?

this will confuse your more now... my first car was a 1L... 2k to insure, but yet after getting the car i got a quote on my dads 2.3L mondeo... 1.3k... shop around a bit with insurance and diffrent cars or your get spanked, get a few no claims then try your dream car (if a polo costs to much)

atm I'm on a nice 850 quote with chris Knot insrance on here, got me and the girl friend (22 and 21) on my 1.6 GTi for a year cant complain :)

Yeah insurance is weird like that, all their risk calculations and stuff.

Was it a 1.0 polo? How did you find the 1.0 on the road? Sluggish through 1st? bit slow? not that I am gonna be doing stupid speeds, just that you want it to go when it has to... lol

Nice one! Insurance for 17yr old in london though... should be fun! -________-

well for 17, in london, gonna be a ball ache for anything really :/ yea my first was a 1L nissan Micra, quite pullie for a 1L TBH

Tell me about it. Going to ring some insurers tomorrow for quotes (prospectively). Then base it on that. Any good cheap insurers? Heard co-op good, other than that?

Ahhh I really don't want to have to go for a Micra.... i know it's prob gna be best val for money. But if a polo checks out orite, ill prob go for that.

Elephant and admiral (same company really) have been the cheapest for me since I passed 6 years ago! If your other half has her own car look into multi car, it knocked £300 a year off our quotes.

And I never really noticed a huge difference in price going from a 1.0 to a 1.2 then a 1.4, even with 3 points.
