Install remote controlled central locking on 6N Polo?

Featured Replies

I have a 1997 Polo 6N with key controlled central locking.

I want to install remote controlled locking.

Someone here who has done that on a 6N Polo?

Experiences?

I have a after markt central locking kit lying in my garage...

Anyone?

It's pretty straight forward.

You need to wire it up to your central locking pump found in the boot (behind the carped, drivers side)

Not sure on what make/model kit you have.

For the Rclick kit for example (this is what i installed on mine) the wiring is as follows:

Connect the red wire, both yellow wires to the red 12V on the plug for your pump.
White/black wire to grey/black wire on the plug
white wire to grey/red wire on the plug

I imagine most of these kits are similar but I'm not 100% sure, your wires/colors could be slightly different.

I can post a picture of the wires from the kit that i have, so you can see if its the same

Here are some photos of the kit i have.

Feel free to comment if you have any idea on how i should connect it to my Polo 6N.

On the wire diagram i got with the kit it says that i have to connect into the "common wire" from the vacuum pump.

Which of the wires to the vacuum pump is the common wire?

And which of the wires is the constant 12v+?

I have now looked at the wires going to my vaccum pump.

Which one of these wires is the "Common" or "Main" wire? I see that they use those name in several instruction manuals for remote central locking kits...

I have now looked at the wires going to my vaccum pump.

The wires you should have are:

RED/WHITE 1.5mm wire PIN 1 12v Live supply

BLACK/RED 0.5mm wire PIN 4 12v or Ground from actuator in drivers door

BROWN 1.5mm wire PIN 3 GROUND

BROWN 1.0mm wire PIN 8 GROUND

GREY/RED 0.5mm wire PIN 7 Switched 12v for the "Door Lock" signal

GREY/WHITE 0.5mm wire PIN 10 Switched 12v for the "Door Open" signal

So looking at your unit wiring you need to connect the YELLOW & YELLOW/BLACK wires from your locking module to the RED/WHITE PIN 1 on the pump unit, Then the WHITE wire from the module to the GREY/RED PIN 7 of the pump & the WHITE/BLACK wire from the module to the GREY/WHITE PIN 10 of the pump If you want to connect the indicators too then connect the BLUE wire from the module to the BLACK/WHITE & BLACK/GREEN wires on the rear light units

Ok. Just needed to be sure, since i thought i had to use the "pneumatic lock" example since its a vacuum.

I have now connected the wires like you said. Everything works fine, except from that when i pus the lock button the car opens, and when i push the unlock button the car locks. What wires should i try to switch?

  • Author

Just figured it out. Just switched the white and the white black wires from the remote box.

Now everything works!

Thanks for all the help!

I did not connect the blue "indicator" wires to any of the lights on the car. I have heard that people have had issues with conecting the "indicator" cables from the remote kit the the cars indicator lights.

Any thoughts about that? Would be nice to also have the car flash some lights when i lock/unlock the car.

Hi Guys!

I think there is no need to open a new topic, I have acquired a central locking unit with remote control for my Polo 6N 1995 1.3 GL, and don´t know how to make the connections to the central locking pump.. =S

Heres is an image of the module I bought:

$(KGrHqV,!rEFJ!wi5P(!BS(lm0)qqg~~60_12.J

This is the electrical scheme for the remote central module (mine is nº4)

8qtm.jpg

The wires i have on my car are this:

Brown - nº 3 (electrical pump connection)

white/Brown- nº 8

Red/Black-4

Grey/red- nº 7

Grey/black- Nº 10

I looked up for the connections on Haynes manual, but I just don´t understand the electrical scheme and what wires mean what =/

I noticed i have some of the wires that were mentioned in this topic above, but I have no blue one´s… does it affect on something?

Thanks for the help!

Hi all, can anyone take a picture of the pump with the control unit attached so I can see how people went about fitting this as I have just bought one and plan to put the bank holiday on Monday to good use! Also, do I need to run wiring to the indicators to make that work? I don't believe any of the indicators come on when currently opening the car via key so I'm guessing I would need to hook them up which could be difficult (having to remove the interior to get to all 4 indicators!)

As ever, a little advice would be greatly appreciated :D

I have the same unit as antoniodias so the below is going to be very helpful to me but I am curious, I'm splicing three wires from the control box into just one wire on pump right? I know that's what it says but seems a little odd! Does anyone know which one of these wires makes the sound as I'm not sure I want it to beep every time I lock or unlock the car - I live in a built up area and I don't want to annoy people. I'd like to hook it up to the indicators though I'm unsure where exactly I should splice the purple wire into, is there a hazard light wire going to the back right indicator I can latch onto? Would that work all 4 indicator lights?

Control box----------------------------Pump

pin 3 Blue------------------------------pin 1 Red/White

pin 6 Yellow/Black-------------------pin 1 Red/White

pin 2 Brown---------------------------pin 7 Grey/Red

pin 5 Yellow---------------------------pin 10 Grey/White

Red Wire-------------------------------pin 1 Red/White

Black------------------------------------pin 3 or 8 Brown

Purple------------------------------------------------------------------------- Indicators left & right

You do need to splice the three wires into the one Red/White ( pin 1 ) The purple wires need to connect to the rear light units both sides (black/White & Black/Green wires) this will then make all indicators flash when locking/unlocking, none of these wires will cause any noise, unless there is a sounder inside the lock module

Thanks so much nige, the indicator wires you mentioned was much needed, I never would have known which ones to hook up - they were a huge pain to get to though, only a tiny bit of wire to splice. I used the twist and tape method because I'm such an amateur - I'm sure soldering would be much more preferable but I have limited resources right now. I tried to used these wire clip things that are meant to splice two wires together but they were rubbish and didn't even break the wire in most instances.

I didn't know if I had to but I assumed I needed to unhook the battery so I did (negative first!) - I think I did everything right though really I have little idea if I went about it all right.

The good news is, it's working great and has a much longer range than I expected it to, I just need the right tool to remove the plastic trim so I can hide the wire going to the passenger side back indicator as at the minute it's running across the bottom of the boot. There are two philips head screws in the middle which are easy enough to remove but either side there are some other types of screws, not sure yet what it is.

It's always a good idea to disconnect the negative lead on the battery before doing any modifications to the wiring. The screws are probably TORX headed screws

Just the negative is ok? I'll remember that in future because the positive was awkward to get to!

It was a torx screw but luckily a flathead I had worked just fine and I was careful not to damage the thread too. All hidden away now and I'm a happy camper :)

Once again I learned something new today!

I also have the same kit as the one in this post and much appreciate the advice as to how to wire into the existing loom.

However, there are a couple of paragraphs in the instruction leaflet that I don't quite follow. The two points in question appear in the instructions attached in antoniodias's post (08 April 2014 - 01:17 PM)), They are directly under the pic of the car.

Electrical and pneumatic....................etc

Program transmitter

No one mentions these and I'm therefore inclined to think that they can be disregarded, entirely. But I'd be grateful if you could enlighten me.

Re: "The good news is, it's working great..etc.

Pleased to hear you're up 'n runnin.

I've been reading the instructions (such as they are) and am a bit confused with a few aspects:

In the instructions it mentions the "Factory default setting for is for an electric door lock system" Electric is 0.5 secs. Pneumatic 3.5 seconds. Did you move the jumper or did you just leave it at the factory setting? If you did move it, how did you gain access? The box I have looks the same as the one in your pic but there are no levering recesses - just a split line.

The learning phase instructions are a bit vague. Could you let me know how you went about that process?

Many thanks to this thread, especially nige8021, up and running here fairly painlessly. FWIW used double-sided tape to stick the control unit under the plastic shelf above the central locking pump and first aid box etc.

1) Electric door lock system works fine on Polo with pneumatic pump using the wiring in this thread. No need to swap to pneumatic.

2) Can open the control unit carefully prising apart 2 halves, best is to use edge of credit card or similar but there is no need.

3) No need to do learning instructions - the 2 remotes that come in the pack are programmed into the control unit out of the box. In unlikely event you actually need to go through learning phase see 2 above.
