I know it's an old posting but it was a great help with fitting a kit to my polo  the other day. It took me a ridiculous amount of time cos one fob was only working intermittantly and out of the two i must have kept picking that one up and thinking that there was a problem with my wiring.  Programmed the dodgy fob to the module and all good now. For under £9 it has saved me from buying a lock/key set which i can now buy at my leisure when i see one at the right price. Some good onfo on this site now, cheers.

Sorry to drag this thread up again, but I have a slight problem with my kit and pump.

 

Have wired up the kit and pump, but one thing doesn't match which might be leading to the main problem. Pin 10 that is stated as Grey/White is Grey/red on my  1996 mk3 polo. This leads to the door not unlocking. Everything else works fine i.e. locking of doors and boot. The module whirrs and clicks, but none of the doors unlock.

 

Help appreciated

Pin 7 should be the Grey/Red wire and is the "lock" signal wire, Pin 10 should be Grey/Black and is the "unlock" signal wire

Thanks Nige 8021. Checked those, and checked the wiring as per your table further up, still locking ok, but not unlocking. Is it a case of trying each colour from the module until it works? Sorry for being a complete Ficko about this

If the locking works ok from the drivers door switch ? remove the connector from the pump and with a voltmeter check you are getting a 12v pulse on pin 10 when you select OPEN and a 12v pulse on pin 7 when you LOCK, then see if you get the same result with the remote fob

Thanks for that.The central locking works on both doors, and the locking works from the fob, but the unlocking doesn't work from the fob. Sorry, should have explained that better earlier

Will give that a go. Is it a good sign that the module clicks when I press the unlock button the same as it does when I press the lock button?

Really wish I had paid more attention to physics at school

 

Yeah sounds like the relays in the box are being signalled but not putting a 12v pulse out

Is that a case of checking the volts or could the box be faulty?

 

Identify what wire from the remote box is the Unlock, if you don't have a voltmeter? use a sidelight bulb and see if you get a pulse of power when you press the unlock on the fob

I give up!!!! None of them unlock the doors. Will just stick with locking remotely

So it's either the remote box is faulty, or you've not got a power supply correctly connected  

I will recheck all the wiring and mess around with a few bits, and if that doesn't work, will get the box changed. Thanks for all your help Nige

On most of these universal boxes, there are 6 wires from the lock/unlock relays in the box, 2 are the actual lock/unlock signal wires to be connected to the pump, 2 are not used and the other 2 need a permanent 12v supply on them normally from the Red/White wire on pin 1 of the pump unit

OK, this is a new one.

 

Managed to get the car to unlock by putting the pink wire in with the grey/black. Now though, it won't lock regardless of what wires I use.

 

To be honest though, being able to unlock is far better than just the locking option

OK, do you have a picture of the remote box or it's wiring diagram ?

OK so you need to connect the White & White/Black wire to the pump permanent supply on pin 1, then the Yellow wire to pin pin 7 and the Yellow/Black wire to pin 10, ignore the other diagrams/figures B-F  sometimes you need to play with the jumper for Electric/Pneumatic 

Just the white and white/black to pin 1 or the red and black too?

No the Red needs to go to pin 1 but the Black wire is the ground so that needs to connect to the Brown wire on the pump pin 3

If you want the indicators to flash when lock/unlocking ?  the two brown wires from the remote box connect one to the Black/White wire on the Left rear light unit and the other one to the Black/Green wire on the Right rear light unit 

I will probably do that when I figure out how to get the brown lead to the left, but at the moment I think I am more than happy that it's finally done :-)
