Not even my lowered Polo, on a windy road in Norfolk with a SLOW sign - so I braked to about 25 and then rollercoaster up-down and see great gouges in the road surface ahead. I just thought a shock absorber had hit the bump stop.

About 20 miles home and park up to find a growing pool of oil underneath.

It's a Skoda Octavia 1.9 turbo diesel with alloy sump. Hope the turbo's okay. There's a plastic undertray so I have not seen the damage yet. Just drove up onto ramps and put drip tray and the weekend papers underneath. Sucked as much oil out the sump with a pump as I could.

Reported to Norfolk council.

Ordered new sump and silicone sealant.

Think it might need a new undertray and side-part which is scraped

Anyone suggest where you can get a metal sump guard to weld on?

you'll need a pic of that hole asap, as they will fill it and deny it ever happened

As the Skoda is now off the road and undriveable that would mean driving there in my lowered Polo.

I'll take a safer vehicle.. might be here (Google streetcar pics from summer time).

Got the undertray off - gonna a need a new one. Sump cracked around the sump plug extrusion. Took the plug out and got about another 1/2 litre of oil out.

Apologetic Norfolk council sending a claim form.

Found a Mini sump guard on eBay - need to think some more about the mounting points.
