Wet seatbelts?  Water accumulating in the boot?  Damp headlining?

 

To add to this thread another major source of leaks is the factory fitted sunroof.

Water drains through the foam seal, then into a tray.  There are 4 drain holes in each corner of the tray and water is channelled out down pipes to each corner of the car.  The big problem is the pipes can get blocked with crap and need clearing out.  The front ones can be cleared by using washing line, poking the line all the way down the pipe.  To clean the rear ones, use compressed air on the exit points of the drain in the rear bumper.

If the tray isn't drained correctly, water then drains down the B pillars (wet seatbelt) , or runs down the headlining into the boot.  A surprising amount!

Worse case scenario is the pipes have come off the tray.  Worst case scenario is the drain tray has rusted and holed :(

Yes. Does seem to be a weakness with this model and an accident will definitely not help. Hope you have some success. Always worth it in the end.

any help with identifying where the leak is? had some snow.a while back and carpets where still wet, dried them out with rubber mats out so, didn't get round to replacing mats and drivers side is damp again, can't work out if its a leak or wet feet?

Try drying the car out?

Get a friend with a hose and you sit in the car and see if any water comes in?

Battery tray.  Door seals.  Door membranes.  Scuttle drains?

My mechanic had a look and put sealant on the seams behind the light on the passenger side.  It's tonnes better!  I think it might be cured?

Yeah may be the door seals but they don’t seem to be letting in, probs battery tray but I’ve not checked throttle Pedal yet 

Good work on the sealant. What type did your mechanic use?

It's a lot of trial and error with a hose I'm afraid.  You might need to leave it there for some time before it seeps in.

If you can remove carpets that helps - you can track the direction of water using talcum powder on the bare metal.  It also lets you dry the carpet out.

If it's the driver's footwell, it could also be your windscreen seal.

I've just cured another leak.  My tailgate seal had gone, meaning water was sat on the metal lip underneath.  The lip then rusted and water seeped into the boot through the seam of this lip.

I sanded the lip back, treated the rust, new seam sealer (that's what is being applied in the picture), paint and replacement seal and she's dry in there.

 

It took me ages to find the source of the leak, but I'm glad I did.  It's something else to check when looking at a wet boot anyway.

 

Years a go, I asked about a leak that filled the driver's side rear footwell with no sign of wet in the driver's footwell. Water could be up to 12mm deep. Since been covered by a tarpaulin for a long time it has not happened. Could this be water coming from the boot?

Maybe . Water finds the lowest point. Mine sits on a sloping drive with boot lower than engine and water will collect behind nearside seat. It can't flow uphill. 

It can't pass the exhaust tunnel. And from the doors it should drip out onto the entry sill.

 

If it is dried out you could put newspaper under the carpets front and back and in boot, close it all up then spray with hose/watering can and see what gets wet.

Or put a line of talcum powder across the boot then drench it from outside?

Just got my bready back after quite alot of body work including the battery tray. Quite a lot of rain this week and got in yesterday to find very wet floor on drivers side front and back. I had been hosing the car washing it and couldn't see anywhere obvious that it was coming in. The factory pop up sunroof seal had been cleaned out but there was still a small drip, but doubt it would let this much in, even over a week or so.

Really annoying me as spent a lot on the car and a lot of damaged caused by wet floor due to rotten battery tray.

Any ideas? 

 

Hopefully going to get the interior wet vac'd this week anyway so it'll help shift some of the water.

Inner door membrane?

 

Rain can flow down window and pass the fabric on the rubber strip. On mine the rubber does not even reach full width.

Cheers. Door membrane first port of call, I remember repairing or replacing this before but that was 10years ago maybe!!!

Just noticed a gap of around 1inch where the door seal should join at the sill, on both sides, can't be helping!
