No there's plenty people that are older than you. If you enjoy it who cares what others think.

  • Mikeys nearly in his 60's so your quite young really compared to him ;P I remember when the old bill were driving jam sandwich Rover SD1 V8s and every other street had a round dial phone in a red pho

I'm 40 , tastes have a changed a bit as I'm older , but yeah i like tinkering about still with my 3x vw's

Take a look at the ages of people involved in the Ford scene

Ford owners are all like 60+ haha.

Never too old dude!

American car scene is full of oldys, not all driving modified yanks but a lot do.

And the AirCooled vw scene too.

I think it just the water cooled is cheaper to get into so more young people really.

If it's what you enjoy then why should you stop driving a car that you've modified!

My dad tuned up his rover vitesse with a full stainless big bore exhaust, air filter and boost turned up.

Hes mid fifties now and he used to and still does enjoy modifying cars.

When i said about the things i want to do on mine he was giving me pointers and said we could do it together so no it doesnt matter.

Aslong as you enjoy it whats it matter.

Also i know its a standard car but the little MG ZRs you see driving about i see a load of pensionable people driving them around.

The suspension on them are hard and they pull it off.

Never too old for this stuff mate, keep doing what you're doing

I remember when the old bill were driving jam sandwich Rover SD1 V8s and every other street had a round dial phone in a red phone box with slots for coins the size of beer mats, white dog poo on the pavement, and usually a Hillman Hunter or Ford Anglia parked up. Abandoned, usually. And the lorries had air horns on a flat roof. Kids used to play outside (there was fk all to do indoors but play with Matchbox toy cars).

I used to smoke - in McDonalds. I still remember their ashtrays.

Yeah, it's not as simple as the old days, when a Peco 4in big bore back box, K&N filter, 9in Mountney steering wheel, tinted rear light clusters and a set of three-spokes got you a guaranteed shag.

Never too old. Sure tastes change but that's it. Just look at the stereotypical classic car guy. There are loads of them modified away from standard :-)

As for standing out at shows, there loads of oldys there :-D

i was only joking Mikey, i kow your not that old ;)

I do remember all that. But then, as Neil74 is the same age as me, so will he..

Oh i remember all that too lol buddy...

Your never too old if enjoy driving/modifying/loving these cars..., but, if the day comes when you just want "a little beige Kia Picanto- to toddle down the shops" then I recon the oil warning light is flickering for you and its time to let a yournger guy have it to enjoy-just ike you did when you first had it.

38 love cars and local shows.

Ohhh no i hate kia's and a beige one at that...thats not for me i will stick with ma polo thanks.

I'm 29 so quite young in comparison, my taste has rightly or wrongly become a little more sensible. Can't stand stickers, no longer riding 1cm off the ground etc... I seem to have reverted to a more OEM+ taste which suits me fine.

As others have said, its completely irrelevant how old you are, just enjoy it.

I'm very nearly 30 dude. Been visiting this site since my first polo!

Your never too old mate! "You like what you like" The other lads that work at the garage i work at all have lowered and modified cars. My boss is about 55 and his daily is a mk3 Ibiza on the deck.

Just enjoy your car! What else matters?! :)

EDIT: We should a Veterans section of the forum! lol. Have a Polo meet and go for a nice cup of tea at the drive through costa! ;) lol
