Bought myself a new mani as mine decide to blow, so ordered a nice spanker stainless..

After taking the old one off… i think i found the blow… hahaha

1528631_10202699024464229_848890144_n.jp

so bolted on the new one and encountered a problem… so much for a straight fit.. this is about 19" gap!

had to get it welded up for it to fit, i wont lie, stainless pipe looks so rad, no matter what it is!

Love it on those starmags

Love it on those starmags

regretting getting rid of them so much :( may get some 13" bullet steels though, 13" fake lows ;)

Bullet steels are the way forward :D if you dont mind me asking mate you say it sounds rad since adding 421? I'm curious if just changing the manifold will change the tone?

Does the manifold make much noticable performance difference on the 8v's? like to hear a review before buying one. cheers, OIlie

  • Author

Well as for performance, i'm not sure, haven't had a chance to really give it a blast as i'm experiencing some electrical problems, as for noise, i was running a standard mani to de-silenced powerflow exhaust, adding this new mani has given it more rasp and crackle and pop in my eyes, and is louder too :)

Not much of an update but getting my bits together now for the carbs side of things, think i bought some stuff unnecessarily… but heres the goodies :)

cbr600 carbs, rejetted to run on the car and some other bits and bobs

still need to get the manifold flange welded up, ignition setup which i've sourced one and some silicone houses to fit the carbs onto the mani :)

Looking good mate. What's that manifold base plate for? Looks like it's for an 8v

yeah, 1.4 8v, i know its probably not going to make much of a difference performance wise, but will hopefully sound cool as f*ck, may go hybrid with a 1.6 8v head and stick 1.4 bottom end, seen it done and they run about 100bhp, i've also just had a look and notice i'm missing the bits that secure the trumpets to the carbs! -_-

Changing the head to the 1.6 one won't make a difference.

A cam and carbs will see you about 100hp maybe with exhaust too - tried and tested last week.

  • Author

ahh bugger, heard a 1.6 was bigger inlets, maybe i hear wrong, may just fork out on the cams then ;) lots of pops and bangs then

Might do but isn't worth the hassle really.

  • Author

fair enough, anoying have this engine, so slow, haha, would love to get an afh in there on carbs and cams, that would be a dream for me

and as for the hybrid engine… Reference:

Sorry for some off the pics, had troubles linking them up for some reason...

Get some 165/45's on those. will help the arch problem, then pull the rears and roll the fronts!.

Looks good.

i still got my black bonnet for when i get bored of this, may lacquer this one and make it a wall feature in my room or something...

Machine polisher for the door.

  • Author

Maybe my handy work just isn't good enough ;) I know someone in a body shop so I'll give then a visit see if they can use their machine polisher :)

Defiantly needs a mop, no chance of polishing out flatting marks like that by hand. Bonnet actually looks okay

  • Author

is it better to use the proper wax too? like the really thick stuff… and the bonnet isn't to everyones taste but hey ho, most people seem to like it :)

Hey mate, you're best to use a good polishing compound, I use farecla G3 for polishing out flatting marks at work. remember to use water, keeping it cool is key. Don't want to burn the paint

My mate is doing photography at uni and is having his hand at the Automotive side of it… so he asked to do a few pics of the polo to try out some stuff… fair to say the end result is AWESOME!!

Cheers guys!
