greets from finland, been reading this forum and now decided to make a own build thread :).

Project:

Polo N 0.9l 1976 model

Plans for body:

-Replace bad panels DONE

-Fix body and do some metal working DONE

-buy bumbers and gt front spoiler DONE

-buy mk2 rear spoiler DONE

-Rollcage (not decided yet)

-buy struts

-buy Mudflaps (Votex rears obtained, missed to buy kamei front flaps from ebay :( )

Plans for engine&gearbox:

-Change engine to 1.3l MH from 1987 classic polo. (Polo classic bought, needs to be stripped down)

-Change bearings and sealings of the motor

-Gearbox not decided yet (still planning this, 4 or 5 gear?)

-MH head to be polished and tuned

-Buy 272 camshaft and parts needed for the change

-Weber DCOE & Dbilas intake manifold (Webers bought, need to get manifold and repair kits for webers)

-Stainless steel exhaust

Plans for suspension:

-Default with lowered springs DONE

Plans for brakes:

- Vented front discs

- Change rear drums to discs

Plans for interior:

- buy missing bits of interior (not done)

- Make fittings for Porsche 944 seats (under work)

We (with my brother) bought this classic polo 2 years ago and car was in bad shape, so we decided to do little repairing. Only 3 previous owners, many parts missing, specially interior bits.

Car bought for 420€, which isn't bad price for rare car. Of course, repairing this beauty costs 10x times of the car price

On vacation, we decided to check car condition to choose what to do eg, over painting or doing some metal work etc.

Looked pretty bad after initial inspection.

Rear left side is damaged due collision and its curved too much outside after bad metalwork.

Right end corner, filled with plastic padding. :(

Rights side fixed and changed for some reason, huge dent.

Left rear corner in bad shape too, due collision.

Cabin needed little bit work too.

Cabin floor cleaned, welded and painted. As you can see, left floor is already quite heavily fixed. Decided to get new floor for left side.

At this point, it was clear that we needed better place to fix this car and serious amount of work to fix this one. We managed to get place where to do this.

I dont have anymore pics of stripping down the car or taking it to blast, after pics i have:

Result of soda/sand blasting.

Soda blasted wings,bonnet and door. Soda washed away and ready for painting.

Car body washed before painting (little rust because of water).

Car painted for repairing and storing.

Posting more pictures later and trying to write better introduction & project aim and specs about planned things for this one.

Car is now ready for the biggest repair

Floor needs replacement, we got left floor piece for hefty price ~380€ including posting.

This is our last progress pic for now. Car needs little bit metalwork more and after that its going to get painted. I will post progress pics after painting.

I have the same front splitter on mine, looks like a good build going on. Interesting to see how the chrome bumpers go with the splitter because I was looking at some for mine, great work so far

Did some fitting, managed to buy quite big load of polo/audi bits.

Same here, i also bought splitter from vw classic parts.

That is a seriously big project - not for the faint hearted.

Only 1 repair bit for front valance (red) which i am using and 1 bigger valance (gray) , seen above of wing.

And i have 3 right wings as in picture, no left side (i need one too).

Yeah, my inbox is flooded.

Engine will be 1.3L MH.

Planned:Twin webers & dbilas inlet manifold + 4-2-1 exhaust manifold+ polished MH head and shrick cam (degrees/lift not decided yet). Off course engine gets little repair before tuning.

Hi,

some update, car will be painted this month, need to wait suitable time for guy who does paintjob. All weld jobs are done, there's "nothing" really to do , just waiting atm. Few progress pics:

Phew, been very busy to scrape parts, i got now huge stock of parts, some of these i will use my self. Managed to find another jackpot of NOS parts.

Last minute tasks done before painting:

We decided to change the right side arch partially, it was too bad shape:

Car with axles + tyres fitted, eases moving body to painting place:

Today we shooted seam sealant around the car, basically car is ready for paint job.

Little bit late but here's last status for car:

-Last preparations for painting done

-Seam sealer applied

-Started to rip polo mk2 classic to fix MH engine and prepare it for mk1

-TA technix coilover kit bought

Thanks, this project has been quite big for me & my brother, of course its rewarding when car is finished.Plans changed little bit, we will fit the original motor for this summer. Need to sort out some MOT regulations regarding engine swap.

Been doing lot of work for this car past week (painting + assembly).

Still waiting missing braking bits from Germany, cant take the car of the jacks.

PS. For very rusty parts, you can shortcut little bit without using powertools to remove rust: citric acid + warm water. 1kg of citric acid + 15litres of water will remove most of rust on any part in 24h. I just used this method for brake parts.

Little bit progress:

Car back on wheels, still waiting some parts to arrive.

Acquired a donor polo (very bad body / shell, interior in very good condition) for some missing parts, chrome bits + interior.
