HELP 6N wiring in electric windows

Featured Replies

I started tearing apart a 6N loom earier:
IMG_2373_zps6d2d28b1.jpg

I was hoping the switches id found in the loom would lead to some plugs on the other end plug and play lol no luck there but atleast I have a better idea of which wires does what. Heres the back of the swiches.

And heres the a diagram iv come up with.... (6 wires going into each plug, the 2 dotted lines coming off each are the up and down controls going off to each door)

Diagramelecwindows_zps2008fc12.png

The black/white and red/white wires go off seperatly on one switch so they obviously go to the motor to control up and down. And the same for the other switch but with red/yellow and black/yellow wires.

The bit I'm stuck on is 4 other wires. Not sure which wire does which.

Does anyone know? Or have a link to where I can get the wiring diagram?

Even a guide for adding electric windows would be cool as I cant seem to find one.

At a guess the most logical thing to me would be:

  • Red/Black is ilummation
  • Brown is positive
  • Grey/Blue is ground

The connectorhousing has got numbers for each pin:

Pin 3 and 5 (so together four Pins) gets red/black (they are all connected together in the wireloom),

Pin 4 gets brown wires for ground (btw: brown is always ground),

Pin 6 is always for the grey/blue illumination wire (58b),

Pin 1 and 2 is always for the windowlifters, one side black/white and red/white and the other side black/yellow and red/yellow.
(but first to the doorcentralconnectors if they are present. They are if the polo had electric windows or electrik adjustable and/OR heated mirrors or centrallocking, if no doorcentralconnectors are present, the cables go straight into the door without any connector between a-pillar and door)

You know about the thermofuse for the lifters and the "53"-relay which you better replace by a bridge to always have the lifters working, not just with ignition on???

Which Year/Month is your car and which Year/Month is the wireloom?

cheers

According to my fuse box I should have a 5amp fuse so was going to put in a 5amp in-line fuse. Not sure what a thermofuse is?

I have the doorcentralconnectors as I have electric mirrors so I'll take the window lifter wires through there somehow

IMG_2382_zps6dc82d55.jpg

And I'm not sure where the relay should go with the wires :s but heres my guess. Ignition source into terminal 86 then ground out of terminal 85. Red/black wire from the window swiches to terminal 87 then termina 30 goes to the battery?

You're all so beautyful clueless :D

OK, What did you do to the wireloom? When you follow the wires for the lifters inside the wireloom you will come to an relaysocket and then to a fusesocket, then the wire ends somewhere in the wireloom, right?

You need that relaissocket and that fusesocket.

It is never between the other burn-fuses. It is a single fuse bi-metal fuse which burns, and after cooling down it is ok again.

It is normaly mounted on the top right on the centralelectricbox, see:

003.JPG

And when you screw loose the fusebox and take it aside, you will see that whole in the centralelectricbox, where normaly with electric lifters from factory on the relaysocket is.

See:

002.JPG

In that case on the forum, i replaces the relay with a little bridge, so i can use the lifters also without any ignition.

Normaly a relay is plugged with a "53" printed on the front.

Find these both sockets in that wireloom you have ngot there, and then come back.

What about the 4 wireends for the doorconnectords? Do they have these cableshoes still crimped on the wireends?

And that 5A Fuse No. 29 is responsible for the relay, the relay has got a coil, thats what the fuse is there for, to protect everything behind the fuse, thats the coil of that relay, every car with electric lifters and / or Openair sunroof has got that relay.

haha oh so wrong, but not far off!

Grey/Blue is switch illumination

OHH i am clueless hense the name trigger lol :unknw:

But I see where all the confusion is I'm missing all of these parts as my car has manual windows as standard (so theres no thermofuse, 53 relay or plug going into the centralelectricbox, not any loom where the plug would plug into the centralelectricbox) The guy I got the loom off to add the electric windows to my 'basic' non electric window model literally cut it off short so iv only got 2 switches and 8 wires coming away with no plug on the end. 2 wires off to each door (2 out of 4 are crimped) 2 earths, 1 power, and 1 illumation.

IMG_2390_zps53c2abfd.jpg

So I need to take it straight to the battery somehow or source more parts.

Would scrapping having the relay and 5amp fuse for that relay and using the black/red wire to take the power straight from battery so the windows work all the time? And ground the brown wires to the bodywork work without coursing any fires? Still not sure where the thermofuse needs to go though :s soes what i'm saying make sense buddy? :doubt:

haha oh so wrong, but not far off!

Grey/Blue is switch illumination

Brown is Ground

Red/Black is positive

Not my strongest suit but I'm slowly getting there! Fingers crossed anyway.

Anyway once iv sorted this out, it'll be payday so I can get under way on the dash conversion and looking at getting them electric windows in the rear!!

Yeah sorry, did not knew you don't have the whole wireloom.

So the guy who gave it to you is a fucker. He just cut off everything, such things annoing.

Thats why i asked about the two sockets.

But now i know where to start.

So you have that powercable which you have to connect that way:

Extend that wire with a not thinner as 2,5square-millimeters thick wire to the centralelectricbox.

Go parallel to the original wirelooms in the dashboard, take that time i just can advise you.

Don't think about that relay, with that relay the lifters only would work with ignition on. With the relaysocket and the bridge... makes no sense to build the socket for making the lifters working only on ignition and than using a bridge for bridging the relay, so just let the relay aside.

You just need that socket for the 20A Bi-Metal Fuse and both cableshoes for inside the socket to hold the fuse, and from the fusesocket another 20cm of .... best 4square-millimeters thick wire and a ring-crimp-cableshoe for a M6 Screw/bolt.

Something like that (not exactly like that cos the pic shows a normal socket with a burning fuse, there the thermofuse won't fit on/in it)

004.JPG

And plase the fusesocket on the relayelectricbox where is space for it... here on mine on the side top

(The metalfuse is the thermofuse on its special socket, the other one i placed there myself for a mk5 sunroof)

007.JPG

005.JPG

And at least connect it on the middle M6 screw/bold to connect it 100% according the current flow diagram.

That middle screw/bolt is capability No "500", according to the current flow diagram.

And with that bi metal Fuse it is 100% save as if the car would have it from factory + lifters are working always and not just with ignition on.

006.JPG

I did all that with a mk5 electric sunroof which needs capability No. 30 (Batteryplus), and so i took that red 20cm 6qmm cable with mounted copper ring-cable-show and an crimped the right fusecableshoes on it and so it is the best solution on a mk4.

So one of the three red cables on the middle screw/bolt is new and one of the olters is from factory for the windowlifters from there to the relaysocket and then to the windowswitches.

The brown wire for ground i would lead to the bolt which is in my case (LHD) left from my centralelectricbox as you can see here:

008.JPG

As you can see it is under the doorcentralconnector, maybe on your RHD Polo there is such a bolt on the right side right from you centralelectrocbox. Then you need a (i guess) M5 Ring-cableshow to get your ground there. So extend the brown wires with the same 2,5 square-millimeters to that bolt.

I used that screw/bolt for my mk5 sunroof.

For illumination take the shortest way.... i guess it is the radiopowerconnector or the one for the hazzard-switch. There are also cables with grey/blue colour. Just weld or crimp it to connect it with one of these.

Thats the disadvantage with that new electrixbox. It is not made for plug&play. The old one which the Golf3 also had, was very good when you wanted to retrofit something.... just had so many different capability distribution racks, but on the polos from 5/97 on, everything has changed.

So you go to your VW dealer and order 1x fusesocket No. 191 937 501 , 2x cableshoe No. N 906 966 03,

009.JPG

010.JPG

1x Thermofuse 20A No. 443 937 105

and get somewhere else one ring-cableshow for 4sqmm with 6mm hole and one for 2,5sqmm with 5mm hole, one meter brown 2,5sqmm wire, 1 meter red 2,5sqmm wire, 20cm 4sqmm wire.

Do you think you can manage that?

And next time you buy something electrical from a polo, make sure it is complete.

cheers

Christian
