bargain polo

Featured Replies

hi htere, I'm new on the veedub scene used to be an old ford fan, then had kids and spent last 10 years in things like citroen picassos etc, now I've decided to teach the missus to drive and as she is about as intelligent as a ginsters pasty, i decided an auto would be better for her

so last friday whilst searching i found on ebay a very poorly advertised 1998 polo 1.6 cl auto, 9 months mot and tax til april, as a non runner, and as a tool and plant engineer i thought id have a bid, i won it at 117.11, i wasnt sure if id taken on a wreck but went out to it sunday morning, it was 20 mins away and what i discovered was a nearly immaculate 55k miles minter...i was a bit mythed as to what the story was.... the owner came out, a lady who told me she bought it brand new, and it wouldnt start last week and she was told it had had its day......so i popped the bonet did a bit of investigatory work, turned igniton on, had lights etc but wouldnt turn over, cut a long story short, i put 12v straight to the solenoid and it fired up and ran perfectly, so i soon discovered it was the inhibitor switch on the gearbox causing the fault (stops it being started when in gear), so i just bypassed it with an aston martin style push start button... i now prefer it to my shitroen and drive the polo every where.... moral to this is, polo is a highly underated car, its smooth, lovely to drive, and gets like stink for an auto,

glad i bought it.

Fair play - true bargain.

Welcome chap. There sure are some bargains out there to be had. Brought a mk2f myself years ago for £40

well jel. : (

Now's the time to buy a 6n loads of mint ones about for under £500

Quite agree - the 6n is fast becoming a real bargain - most cases even cheaper than stock mk3s. I actually really enjoy driving my 6n especially around town.
