As there are no fault codes showing, it might be time to get out the voltmeter or multimeter and see just how far the voltage does reach to (is it as far as the ignition switch? if so, does it 'come out the other side') - That is only an example, you need to start at ONE end e.g. at the battery and work your way through the system.

My standard warning of taking notice of the voltmeter:

Just because you get more-or-less battery voltage at ANY point during the checks, DOESN'T always prove that everything is OK,

You CAN have a situation where battery voltage shows on the meter, but if you then connect a test light bulb, there isn't enough 'power' to light it. This could be due to high resistance in the circuit, the cause of which could be a poor, dirty or corroded connection or cable.

The objection to using just a test light and not a voltmeter, is that you would never know then what area the fault was in and you could be left looking for broken wires whereas the actual fault may be a poor connection.

Regards.

One thing worth mentioning on the fuse board there is a black wire when the test light is in place it is lit, when key is turned it still stays lit.

However on my other running GTI the test light will pulse on and off when key is turned.

I am unsure of what the wires are as do not have access to wiring diagrams and haynes manual does not cover the 6n2 gti.
