6n2 rear brakes/ handbrake problems

Featured Replies

Hi, when under hard braking the rear drum brakes on my 1.0 make a rubbing/grinding noise. Any ideas? Also the handbrake is really high and can drive off when it.is on.

All help appreciated

Cheers

This sounds very much as if the brake linings have worn down and you are getting metal-to-metal contact between the brake shoes and drums.

Suggest that you get the wheels and drums off as a mater of some urgency and make an inspection of the situation.

Sometimes, noises like this can be attributed to a broken component (spring, ma be) or a foreign body (pebble may be) inside the drum, but this, in itself wouldn't affect the hand brake travel.

Regards.
