LHD Polo G40 - The End has come!

Featured Replies

Well yesterday I went to see Chris (Chris2911) in Newcastle and purchased a lhd G40 off him.

It is by far and a way the most original G40 I've ever seen, which may mean my plans for it will upset a few people.

The plan is to completely strip the shell and use as much as I can to restore my genuine rhd G40 back to stock. With maybe a few subtle upgrades for the better.

It will also mean I can leave my GT converted to a G40 and attempt to complete/tidy up the conversion in due course.

But since it is a nice honest original G40 I've decided to hold off stripping it until the tax runs out on the car. So I will use it on the road up until that point, and I will attempt to take it to a Polo meet in that time so that it can be appreciated by Polo enthusiasts one last time before I break it up.

Apparently the girl Chris bought the car off named the car 'Hugo'

So meet Hugo

Congratulation to your lhd Polo.

Muharrrrrr.....loooooooooooooool

Haha cool your names for your cars.

So keep Hugo in a good condition.

i guess when Mike and Edd from "Wheeler Dealers" are restoring a mk3 G40 polo somewhere in the future, they will get the car, or single parts for it from Chris in newcastle... then we will see his collection of polos and poloparts all on tv.

cheers

Christian

Envious of how many gs you have

Lovely!

nice original g40 bit a bit rough round the edges

I agree for you to sacrifice it to save one of the uk cars ( me dad wanted me do do it and but engine in the genesis but already have a spare)

don't put that pic of the genesis on here please

I don't make names for my cars, I just happen to keep buying cars with names! haha.

I doubt Mike and Edd have even heard of a Polo G40 let alone buy one to restore, but if they did I'd happily sell them some over priced bits :)

Don't worry Chris, that picture of your Genesis is between you and me....and Richard. I had to send it to him to make him jealous.

I think 'hugo' is aware he hasn't got long left in this world though, a fault has developed with the indicators. It just refuses to indicate at all, but the hazards still work. Guessing a bad earth somewhere but more investigation is required.

My girlfriend has been working through translating the receipts you gave me for the car Chris, looks like the big bill from VW was the one for the new fuel tank so that's good. The other big bill was for its last foreign MOT and service. Had quite a few little service items replaced such as wheel bearings and stuff.

I'll get some good pictures of the car before its final days.

Well for 'Hugo' the end has come......

Since I couldn't trace the indicator fault and I couldn't willingly drive it about like a cock not indicating I decided to end his life a couple of months early.

So genuine lhd G40 K638GFS took its last drive down to my unit this evening. Was in good company though, placed in the middle of the unit between my G40 and my GT.

The G40 is still awaiting it's engine bay paint job, that will start possibly tomorrow.

So I had an hour or so to spare tonight so I got cracking on the stripping of 'Hugo'

G-Lader was the first thing I went for.

When I left the unit the car looked like this

Will be in good company for the night

Immediate plans are to swap out the G-Lader for the one on the GT as that one is making funny noises so I'm going to give it a rebuild.

All other parts coming off 'Hugo' will be cleaned/painted and once the G40 has a freshly painted bay then I'll start rebuilding her until she is ready to go back on the road.

Hopefully in time for the Polo show.

My build threads for both the GT and G40 will be updated soon.

i think i shed a tear looking at that poor G40 being broken lol poor thing :sorry:

What a shame, lovely set up you have there though.

Register has been updated on Club G40.

Its is a shame to break, but it is going to make an original UK G40 live once again.

Did a bit more stripping today.

whats happening to the shell?

poor hugo built its hopes up after I saved it from sunny Scotland last month to return there to die once and for all unless someone saves him again

Shell can be uplifted for free if anyone is interested in it.

But it will be stripped completely bare once I'm done.

Wish the best luck with that end... Things happen. :(

Fair play better than stripping a rhd model.
