Getting Old

As a mod I'm not even sure this is the correct area to do this!

As those who know me I'm the wrong side of 50 (52) but while it does give lower insurance (not for me as I live in Miton Keynes central crime postcode area!!) but your body starts to fall apart (might be from abuse in earlier life!!!!!!!!!)

Just before Christmas last year my bi-annual blood test revealed I had a very high PSA (prostrate specific antigen) this then entaild having a probe up the jacksy to get a scan of the prostrate gland, then via the jacksy they punched through the anal canal and took 20 biopsys of the the gland, that was painfull enough, then I started with the radiotherapy this year, now I know what your microwave meal goes through, it ain't nice, I suffered a problem where the waves burnt the piss pipe and I was in total agony and spent 4 days in hospital peeing pure blood. they've given me 10 days off till my next session but I can tell you I'm not looking forward to it!!

This is not always an old mans disease! and I know most of the forum users are under 30 but it can attack you!! Ask you fathers/grandfathers if they had any problems with the waterworks, not that is a allways an indicator, but if they did ask your GP for a PSA blood test as it tends to be a generic problem.

You might of seen the adverts on TV, but if not have a look at http://prostatecanceruk.org/get-involved/men-united and sign up, it could save your life!!

They were hopefull the radiotherapy would treat me but after the reaction I had it might end up with having surgery to remove the gland, but that has it's side effects, like total incontinence!! and errictile problems!!!

So if you know,if your father or any of your grandfathers had a problem, PLEASE go and get checked!! It does effect more guys over 40 but it can be there hiding at any age, so get checked and sign up to the website, you owe it to yourself!!!!!

Nigel

Good luck with the treatment. I'm 38 and have had 2 yrs of hell with my prostate. Have been diagnosed with chronic prostitis, constant pain which then extends to other areas.

Thank you for your support, I don't know what your treatment is,but it helps show to our younger members that prostate problems are not just for us 50+ It's a silent killer with little or no symptoms

Hi Nigel

I've been on steroids and other treatment for the past 6 months. The treatment is fine, symptoms are the problem, its the psychological impact that has been getting me down.

The visits to the microwave in themselves has'nt been a problem, just the feeling like your burning below when you get home is the painfull bit!, and it makes you so drained you feel the need to sleep for hours. The thought of needing surgery and the possible incontinence problems are my bigges fear I'm not worried about infertility etc as I don't plan on having any kids, but being unable to control my bladder is a wory!!!

All the best with the treatment mate, I can't begin to imagine how it must be for you.

I recently got loads of sharp pains in that area, that would last for 5-10 seconds at a time, it was hell, I would literally fall to the floor in pain.

Turns out after a bit of self diagnosis that its a bowel spasm caused by spicy things, like chilli sauce.

I love chilli sauce :(

yep I love chilli sauce with everything, but the pain is like 100% worse that an any post chilli burn and nothing seems to make it subside.

it's a problem that can affect any age not just old gits like me :-(

Hi Rob

I was still being treated as a diabetic when I made that lovely vodka!!! so I was not supposed to drink any alcohol :) but thats all changed now in October I've been reclassified as glucose intollerant and not diabetic, so at the moment I'm quaffing a nice large voddy & OJ it helps me forget what I'm going through, I've got tens days before I restart the sessions in the microwave, then I'll have to see what they want/need to do next:(

I am a phd student at the University of York studying low temperature plasmas. My group specialises in biomedical applications of plasmas and at present we are treating prostate cancer with an atmospheric pressure plasma. Much less invasive and harmful to surrounding tissue!

My point is just that we are tackling this particular issue with positive results.

I hope you treatment does the trick! And the pain eases!
