1990 golf driver £1000ono

Featured Replies

So its back up for sale, albeit looking a bit different this time. I never intended to keep this one when I bought it so I need to break my bond with it and get into a VR6 again.

1990 1.6 driver

MOT mid January 2015

Tax till July 2014

Approx 108k

Brand new weber carb fitted and tuned last summer at a cost of nearly £500!

Around the same time it had a complete top end rebuild and brakes all round including cylinders, again nearly a grand in receipts there!

Lots of other new parts fitted such as rad fan, alternator etc

BBS RAs with 2 front tyres showing lots of life, rears approx 2-3mm left.

Coilovers, currently seized at this height (standard suspension can be supplied)

I made up an uprated headlight loom, it has yellow headlight bulbs and they're pretty damn good now with 13+ volts at the bulbs.

Old school sony black faced cd player with remote (not pictured), theres some 6x9s in the shelf and a sub wired up in the boot. I could remove all this and fit an uncut shelf if required.

No real rot to speak of, few little bubbles have appeared in my ownership, down by the rear valance seams as usual, little bit on the scuttle panel wiper blank, although underneath is red and immaculate

I have recently cured the common puddles in the rear footwells, carpet removed and dried, re-membraned the rear doors, cleared sunroof drains as a precaution.

I bought this as an auto and I converted this to manual using parts from my stripped GTI, which had very recent gear linkage kit, so nice and tight gearchange.

Has some Heko wind deflectors and genuine VW roof bars, the wind deflectors can stay on it but the roof bars I'd have to work a deal on as I'd prefer to hold onto them.

I have a load of parts left from my stripped GTI so I could work out a deal on some of that, theres a disc rear beam, front subframe with new brakes, loads of other stuff in the shed. I also fitted the boot strut carpets from that.

There are some bad points though, we all like honesty!

Paintwork needs some power polishing with G3, the roof has been done and came up really good, the bonnet and a few other areas could do with it, I'm a plant fitter by trade so I do dirty stuff, not bodywork!

Needs a speedo cable, I put some rev counter clocks in it recently and broke the clip to the back of the clocks! The car barely goes anywhere though so I've clocked up less than a few hundred miles since, still have the original clocks. I will fit one if I can find one soon as its not a major job.

Due to the manual swap, I haven't got round to wiring up the reverse lights, again not a major job.

Missing headliner

The main negatives are the dent in the lower front passenger wing, and the rear panel. As you can see the bumper is pushed in too, I make it my mission in the near future to remove the bumper iron and straighten it, no structural damage luckily.

The PO didn't send off the logbook, so since November I've only had the green slip. I have waited long enough now so I have sent off the green slip so I'm awaiting a full logbook. I am the 4th owner I believe but can confirm this when the logbook shows up. I do have 2 keys for the car which do everything and I have a folder CRAMMED with receipts, original VW PDI sheets, original logbook etc. Some good bedtime reading.
