Changing Headlight Bulb - 2004 Bug Eye Polo?

Featured Replies

Hi i'm a newbie

Just got my daughter a 2004 1.2 polo, great little car but noticed bulbs are just lose in the headlight behind the rubber cover. Does anyone know where I can get the retaining clip/rings from? I've read different reports as to exactly what the retaining clip is, and the VW dealer says can only buy whole headlamp?????

BTW Also does anyone know how easy it is to fit a whole new headlamp unit (off side)???

Cheers

Barney

First Welcome to the forum.

The spring clips are not listed as a seperate part, hence the dealer wanting to sell you a complete headlight, have you tried a breakers yard as the clips are fairly common to most cars.

As to fitting a complete headlight here's the guide from the dealers manual

Nice one Nige, many thanks, will try breakers for clips. I've got a new (but cheap on ebay) headlamp coming for o/s as all milky and scratched so can have a look at clips then....

Thanks Nige, all done, headlamp replaced, bulbs now secured properly with the plastic securing rings....

Poor design though, bet lots of people have trouble changing the main headlamp bulbs and break the clips - which you can't buy sperately to the whole headlamp!
