Central locking - Passenger door and back door won't open?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have been having a problem with the central locking on my Polo S 1.2 (2002).

When I use the remote to unlock the car, the front passenger door and back door on the drivers side will not open?

The front passenger door used to open but over the last few months hardly ever opens, although every now and then it might. I don't think the back door drivers side has ever opened, is it possible that there is some kind of child lock on it?

The front passenger door does lock and unlock with the key.

Somebody suggested disconnecting the battery for a bit and then reconnecting in the hope the central locking would reset itself but it has not made a difference.

Any other ides I could try?

Your help would be much appreciated.

I'm having this issue with my drivers door, will unlock and lock with they key in the lock but not with the fob. Could this be a new mechanism needed? I've got a open or short to ground fault on the door?

It's frustrating isn't it.

What I don't understand is why the passenger door sometimes opens on a rare occasion, it suggests that what ever mechanism is in there does actually work when it wants to.

Also don't understand why the back door has never opened, can only assume that the mechanism on that door is broken.

I have done a few searches on google and found a couple of threads discussing various issues with central locking, and two common things that get discussed are the 'pumps' which I think pop the catch up and down, and the wiring that leads to each door. Sounds like either of these can have problems if damaged. Could be a process of elimination and even then I wouldn't really have a clue where to start to be honest, I was hoping that as it is electronic there was a way of just resetting it, like a computer I suppose just turn it off and on.

This is a pain as I was hoping to sell this car soon but it makes it difficult when two of the doors don't open, even though the rest of the car is in decent condition.

First off, discount any mention of "Pumps" as your 9N uses electric motors & Electronic control units in each door, these can be tested with VCDS/Vagcom and this will show up any faults, also there are programming options for single door opening and all door with the fobs

You might find if you press the unlock button on the fob twice all doors will unlock as this is also part of the programming options

yea i was aware of the key fob options in regards to a double press, here is my vcds scan, do i need a new drivers door lock switch? my electric wing mirrors wont adjust either via the adjusting knob, and my passenger window will not come down and i have a window motor for that to switch out, but no faults for either of those 2 in VCDS, can you recommend anything else i could try in vcds? I'm not very good with it so if there is can you give it me in laymans terms?

Thanks for the advice.

I tried double clicking the fob and it did open the passenger door, I have locked it and unlocked it a few times and it seems to work each time.

Unfortunately the back door is still shut, like I say this door has never opened so maybe it is damaged.

So I am one door better off than I was lol. It is significant though as I reckon I can sell it easier explaining that just one back door doesn't open rather than two doors, reckon people are more likely to accept that.

I will take a look online to see if I can find programming options on the fob, maybe try a different combo.

Thanks again for your help.

Does the rear door/s lock/unlock OK from the button in the door? if they do then that'll rule out a faulty lock

The programming for selective door lock/unlocking is done with VCDS/Vagcom

When you say button in the door, do you mean the inside handle?

I just went and tried the inside handle on the back door and the door won't open, when the handle is pulled the catch tries to go up but gets stuck before it can go right up to open.

And now the passenger door is not opening again lol, it has a mind of its own!!

On the drivers door is'nt there a seperate door lock/unlock switch? most other models do, that's the switch I was refering to.

I've changed the motor in my passenger window it worked perfect for a few mins then when I tried again it wouldn't. But then worked again when changed back and stopped again. I have a fuse that keeps blowing, so I need to find out what it's for and why, hate fault finding :(.

I also noticed that when pressing the lock switch on the drivers door the electric mirror adjuster switch lights up for a split second?

its all mumble jumble to me, i guess ill have to get somebody on it who knows whats what. if the window wont be allowed to go up or down why isnt there a fautl logged in vcds?

i have a similar issue. i can lock and unlock the car from the inside but when i have the window down and lock the car with the doors closed i can lock with the key but cant unlock it with a key ..?

HEKP!!!!

I tried the button you are talking about, it did open the three doors that work fine, but the back remained shut as always so it appears there is a problem with that door.
