I got this polo around a year ago as a winter driver because my other car is no go in the snow and salt.

It was £500 with 63k on the clock and absolutely zero rust. Came with tax and MOT for a year and is a funky colour so i bought it there and then.

Then i got a bulk buy of someone near oxford, got 4, 6x9's, 2 subs, 16v bumpers, clear sides and repeaters, rebadged grill, an amp, 3 head units that all didn't work, gear knob and randomly some ford steels? for £100 which seemed okay.

Then I crashed it a little bit into someone haha

So I decided my cheep run around was ultimately going to end up worth nothing at some point so i got on ebay and got coil overs for £159, a decision to save money and get lows that i now kind of regret because my ride is awful and so is handling but its all fun!

Then it failed its MOT on a bunch of random stuff but passed the same day to the tune of £160, its got 9 advisories including "vehicle excessively lowered".

But here it is now on my 15x7 165/45 15, 5x130 Fondmetals et20 with 20mm adaptors. I painted the 16v bumpers myself so they are pretty horrible, fingerprints and drips but I'm spending next to nothing on this car! every price on here is what i've spent on it!

This weekend will be rear camber + arch rolling if i can get a roller and then out with the helpers and down with the adjusters.

Quick question, does anyone have their front chassis notched and if so by how much, which method ect?

Amazing what a set of coilovers and decent wheels can do to a car.

you can roll your arches with a piece of scaffold tube jack your car up and place the tube between arch and tyre the lower the jack until the tube just touches the arch

then roll the tube around your wheel to fold the arch a little,then just repeat lowering the jack a little at a time

love the car by the way thats my favourite colour for a polo, same colour as this porsche again my favourite

didn't have any scaffolding that was a manageable size so i used the old rear damper tube which worked well but in my lack of experience and haste i chipped off a lot of paint on one side, I did think maybe i should use a heat gun but then i decided i didn't really care to much. Hopefully I'll re-paint the quarter or something? Cheers for the idea though!

Is it easy to do then ??

I had the rears on mine rolled with a proper tool and heat gun and still lost paint on the arches.

Dropped it a touch more last weekend and rolled the fronts myself with a steel bar very easy to do with a mate pushing the car back and forth slowly.

Either way, you're likely to lose or damage the paint.

Yeah man, just lowered it down onto the bar and rolled it about + jerked it outward to kind of flair the arch!

I've taken the adjusters and helpers out all the helpers its a little lower but i really need a notch up on the drivers front and real rolling and flaring on the rears to get it sat how i want in.

I'll get a few photos up tomorrow evening!

Yesterday I took the helper springs and adjusters out all round, wound the fronts up 8 turns on the front and about 15 on the back. When i let it down the backs sat on the tyres but the front looked pretty good. So I wound the back up a lot until it was drivable and drove home form my friends work shop. The entire way the drivers side drive shaft rubbed and knocked really bad, so when i got home i took a quick picture and then wound it un a few more turns. I rolled the rears some more but its still destroying the side walls of my tyres so i really need a smooth professional roll on those rear lips.

After raising it up a little I went and picked up a friend and with the two of us in it we kept smashing the central exhaust mount and cat of the more cambered roads. Does anyone know if that mount/ bracket can be removed or is it a curtail part?

It's only a little lower now than it was before but thats because of the need to notch and properly roll the rear arches.

Last night me and a friend decided to notch the drivers side front.

So we found a decent sized hole cutter and got to work. we drilled quite high well over the crescent of the drill bit so that we could then widen the notch to make it bigger. I decided to use a chunk of old accrow for the plate to be welded in.

It started out well getting through the first skin, we then cut the bottom section out with an angle grinder before trying to drill the second side, however the drill stated to overheat and eventually set on fire.

so today i went and got a £34.99 drill from wicks because its the closest hard wear shop, I thought the drill would suck but it was far better than my old one! So job done, finished drilling the hole, grinded the crescent out of the hole and hammered the plate to size. Just dropped it down to my local garage to have it welded up since i've never welded.

hopefully now i can get the front down to where i want it to sit!
