I drive a 96 1.4 Polo with AEX engine. (1.4 8V)

I recently bought remote keyless entry from eBay. I put it in and it's working fine.

However it's got switchblade keys as well and I'd like to use those for starting the car as well. But I can't because they're not coded.

So how do I bypass the immobilizer so I can use switchblade keys to start as well.

I only got one original key btw.

That could work, another idea I had was to remove the transponder chip and tape it somewhere close to the ignition switch. Would that also work?

I was wondering if there is a way to use vagcom or something else to disable the immo in software? I have an elm 327 dongle but don't know if it works or not.

The first idea would work:) but your car being a 96 is not OBD2 compliant so the ELM327 will not work! you need a full working copy of VCDS/Vagcom to do any diagnostics

With that you'll be able to read the fault codes only, to get the full functions you'll need to buy a licence from Rosstech for $99

Just a thought... If you're gonna remove the transponder to leave near the barrel...why not transplant it into your new key? There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to do it

Thanks for the answers guys.. Well I have two switchblade keys and only one transponder (original key) .. I want to be able to leave a working key home in case I lose one.

I'll give it a go when the cable arrives. But isn't there another (possibly simpler) procedure that I can go with to make things easier? Is the immo a separate box or in the dashboard/ECU? If it's a separate box can I just deactivate and remove it somehow, since I have a working key? (In my old Chrysler, removing the immo box with engine running decoupled it from the ECU)

Or even simpler, how about jamming the fuel pump open with rewiring a relay through the ignition switch? (Or cutting the wire that turns off the fuel pump, or similar)

I read somewhere that earthing one wire between the ECU and immo box keeps the fuel pump running, but cant remember where..

did you ever get to the bottom of this as i am having a problem and need to bypass the immo? :/

Three options really, either swap the chip over to the new key, stick the chip to the ring on the barrel, or either use vagcom or vag tachometer etc to program another chip ( you can make a total of 4) or have an auto locksmith etc do it for you. If the latter then you have to tell them you want extra keys done and not a copy as there might be problems if you did that. I could be wrong.
