Recently picked up my first car for a bit of a steal. Bought it off a friend who was upgrading to a GTI. I've done some work to the car previously when he owned it and have had a good nosey around so for what i paid i'm pretty chuffed. It's a 2001 on a X reg 5door 1.0E with 110k on the clock. It has 9months MOT & 6months tax. For £250 i've got abit of a bargain.

The car does require some work doing to it,

It needs: A new battery, OSF track rod/ trackrod end, the tracking done, new rear brake shoes & maybe drums. The handbrake adjusted and a brake fluid change. Should be about £100 quid in parts through my work.

The car had a set of alloys on it which i thought were quite nasty. The seller kept them and i sourced my own, another reason I got it for so cheap. Luckily, a few weeks before we struck a deal, a customer at work traded their car in and it was going to auction. So i nabbed the alloys which had 195/45/15 Nankang tyres. Got them for a total of £4.00 as I bought my workshop controllers breakfast for him doing me the favour!

Once i've got all the priority work out of the way i'll do bits and bobs to it. Got a good few ideas of what to do.

The car was abit of a state interiorwise, and needed a good clean.

She's turned out not too bad for a 13 year old car.

Not really done much to it at the moment apart from remove mudflaps, fit a parcel shelf, touch up the alloys and make bolts to fit the centre caps.

Will be ordering parts this week, updates soon.

Decided to remove the rear 'polo' badge. I used a heat gun from work, tar and glue remover and elbow grease.

It's turned out not too bad, i'm pretty happy with it now. Not much else been done apart from new sidelight bulbs.

Payday is next week so will be ordering parts to fix the rear brakes.

Been making quite good progress with the polo recently and i'm happy with the way it's going.

The grey parcel shelf i got had something spray painted on it in black so decided to do an old Wheeler Dealers trick and spray the whole thing black with spray paint.

Decided i would de-wiper the car. Managed to get a bit from work to fill the hole left by the wiper arm. I just used bonding sealer to get it to sick, a week later and its holding pretty well. Disconnected the water pipe to the rear wiper motor aswell. haven't got a photo but i'm sure you can imagine what it looks like.

Purchased the rear brake shoes and fitting kit from work which cost 13 quid! Will be fitting this hopefully at the weekend and then will be adjusting the handbrake.

got new number plates made up as the old ones were abit scabby, made them at work.

Got them way i wanted them, no borders, no company logo or BSAU logo. Just 6 characters. (they've still got the plastic cover on them in the photo)

Collected a set of coilovers last week so will be stripping them down, cleaning them up and painting them before fitting.

Also managed to get a 900w subwoofer of my uncle for free! Just need to buy the wiring kit for it then i'll be sorted!

Thats how far i've got with it so far, happy with progess and can't wait to lower it.

Not updated in a while. Managed to do a few more things to the polo over the last couple of months.

Got all the wiring i needed for my sub and got that fitted. Quite happy with the bass although reckon i need some 6x9's in the parcel shelf to even it out.

decided to give it a quick service and o/s/f track-rod end after work one day.

then decided i'd fit the coilovers as i got fed up of the stock ride height..

to slightly lowered in a few hours..

I was quite happy with how it sat, grandually got a wee bit lower once everything had settled in.

washed it at took it a drive :

since then just been driving it and getting used to it.

finally got myself a cup holder unit to make the interior feel a little less basic

i need to lower it..

I had noticed the car has been rubbing do decided to take a look, needed to drive onto a piece of wood to get the jack under

found out where it had been rubbing, its right back to bare metal sprayed it with black spray paint to avoid it rusting.

noticed that this is how the strut sat whilst the car was in the air (jacked up) and decided to buy 5mm spacers for extra clearance..

they arrived and fitted them straight away, gives me piece of mind now.

also fitted front 270w door speakers and blue footwell lights aswell as others bits and bobs inside.

when i had the car up on the ramp in work i noticed rubbing marks on my O/S drive shaft. it turned out it was rubbing on the main engine wiring. Decided to just cable tie it up out of the way, cheap & easy fix.

washed and hoovered it, had to take a few quick photos. the front needs to be lower..

after wanting to do it for a while, i finally got round to colour coding my bump strips. i used 1200, 800 and 240grit wet and dry, grey primer, VW reflex silver paint and clear laquer all bought from halfords. cost around £30 quid all in.

love the look of the front with the standard grill, was consider a GTI grill but without the gti badge or red stripe but don't see the point anymore.

really happy with it, make it look so much cleaner. unfortunately ran out of paint so i will be doing the handles at the weekend hopefuly. thats pretty much where i've got to so far and it's all been done for not alot of money. i will be replacing the n/s/f wheel bearing and changing the fuel filter at the weekend aswell. getting to 195/45's for the front in the next few weeks and looking into spacers/ new wheels.
