Hi everyone,

I have a 6n2 Polo (2000 facelift model) 1.4 16v 75bhp.

I am pretty new to understanding 'modern' engines (more into the flat 4 aircooled)

Now i know there is an EGR system, compromising of the main valve near the front of the engine on the passengers side.

Mine has a round disc body with a single braided hose spout. (mine is now missing)

This went to a plastic assembly mounted on the side of the engine block which i believe is the EGR valve Solenoid?

Now originally mine also had a small plastic round cap/sniffer? component on a small section of braided hose which 'hung' from the assembly on a plastic bracket.

That has fallen off, and i think my mechanic blocked off the small hose section instead.

I just CANNOT find this part (sniffer thingy) anywhere on the internet to buy!

It is pictured in my Haynes manual ( 2B*9 pic 9.6 - visible under the spanner)

Also does anyone have a diagram of where the hoses all should go for the system to be correct (as per when it left the forecourt).

That would be splendid!

There is a TPS near me so I will pop up there in the week and sort the missing parts.

Lastly, i currently have hoses 15 & 16 missing.

Now i remember seeing that my mechanic has blocked off one of the tailpieces to which either hose was connected,

but as it has also fallen off I was wondering if you knew which one on the EGR solenoid block would likely be the one that he blocked?

( I remember seeing a blocked section of hose but not where it connected!)

I will speak with him tomorrow, but wondered if you could help for now as i dont want to cause any more engine problems!

For those wondering, the filter tailpipe was left open, and the tailpipe that had the hose that went to the EGR valve itself was the one he blocked off.

This bypasses the EGR system.
