I want to fit some spot fog lights to my mk2f cl in the lower front bumper . I belive hellfords sell similar lights to the og ones by hella. Does anyone know what I need apart from the lights ? ie relays size wire switch etc , or does anyone make a loom that I can buy plug and play job.

I noticed some one ebay sells uprated headlight loom and that is plug and play job..

its just a standard relay

wiring can be figured out by watts divided by volts

so if its a 55w bulb 55 divided by 12 gives you the bulb wiring , 110 divided by 12 for the feed , round em up to nearest wire size

you can buy universal spot light pre wired relays

Basically the fogs will draw 10 amps, so anything 1mm and bigger should be good, i would advise atleast 1.5mm or 2/2.5/3mm cable (domestic and auto cable sizes)
Wiring is extremely simple anyway and i can draw a simple wiring diagram up in no time if you wanted, relay wise use any 4/5 pin standard relay either new or salvaged from a scrap car or something.
Switch wise you can use the same switch that also controls the rear fog (i presume you have one but correct me if wrong) if so you will note if you click it left the rear fog is on, centre nothing and right will be for front fogs, there is a loose connector tucked around behind the glove box area ready, no idea what it puts out but i presume it gives a neg and pos for the relay meaning you don't have to fit an aftermarket switch.

Just make sure you don't get ripped off for the cable and relay.

pretty much this is a quick fit example if the fog light wiring on the polo is a pos and neg for relay, if not with a little modification to that loom it will work perfect.

Ok from what I've heard the fog light connector becomes live when its on, so should be simple, i will quickly draw one up

So heres a quick ms paint sketch, i don't currently know the pin out for the fog connector but 1 of the 2 pins on the (i think white) connector in the passenger side is live when the dipped beam is on and the fog switch is on the right side

Will the relay need to be 12v but what amp ?

If you get a 12v 40amp you'll be on the safe side

I have just been on Halfords site and the fog lights they sell £24.99 come with relay ,wire and fuse result.

Ideal, just wire it to the ms paint diagram and you will be fine, no sparks or flames (p.s. i cannot promise that)

Had a look into this 2F fog lights thing recently after seeing a harness on ebay for £30. The original fog lights for the 2F are only available at VW Classic Parts for 185 Euro each, or on German ebay for 400 Euro for a pair; no longer are they being sold at a reasonable price.

So, what else fits in the hole? With custom brackets will 6N (6N0 941 700) ones fit in and sit at the right angle?

Does a 6N have a relay for the fogs? If so then one would have to be used in a 2F, as a 2F is switch only i think.

To be fair, that's the sort of money second hand ones were doing about 15 years ago 😂

I keep reading that the 2F ones are a bit rubbish too, rubbish how? People seem to think they aren't bright enough, but if the proprietary wiring doesn't have a relay in it, this will be why.

I've been reading quite a lot of posts about buying generic rectangular ones from the motor factors too. I don't think this is a good idea, as they won't sit properly with the profile and angles of the bumper.

So how do the real ones bolt up? Are there empty holes behind the bumper?

From memory, and it's a very long time ago, the bracket goes up and bolts on the bumper iron.

The glass on them was really thick, so they didn't really let a lot of light through,
