Hi all

Right i have a mk2 polo breadvan that i've taken on to do up for a friend. I'm onto lowering it at the moment and the back has dropped nicely, but the front is just not low enough and it seems really clunky and odd when steering. I bought the lowering stuff from here second hand, adjustable rear shocks (They're all the way to the bottom) and the fronts are 60mm drop on original shocks (apparently) but the front is higher than the rear like i say.

I'm trying to do it all on the cheap really so i was thinking of just chopping the original springs and using the original shocks. I've seen coilovers on ebay but they're just straight, no hub ect so i don't get how i would fit them?

Doesn't surprise me that 60mm on standard shocks feels odd! They're not designed to work that low. I imagine your near enough bottoming them out especially if they are a few years old.

when dropping more than 40mm, most people will tell you to change your shocks, the "clunkyness" would probably be the shocks bottoming out. also raise the rear 20mm (when lowering a mk2 polo bready they always look like they have rear rake when you lower it equal e.g 60-60) most people do 60-40 to avoid this (: if you decide to chop the springs i would be interested in the lowering springs and shocks you have bought. As for the clunkyness, it's from left to right not from suspension travel.

Do the shocks come out of the hub unit so i could put uprated ones in?

Yes the shocks come out, you just have to undo the big cap on top but sometimes they can be a bit tricky due to age. As for the clunking, check the top mount is ok and the spring seating because it sounds like you might be turning the spring as you steer.

With the lowered dampers you can go about 80 90mm without killing them
