*** Lots of large photos now added in the next post. Description updated 23/03/14 ***

1999 Polo 1.4 16v. Black magic pearl. Owned and driven by me since March 2009. 100bhp, AFH engine.

Short MOT - 8/4/14. Tax until the end of March 2014.

Mechanically great - should get through another MOT with little hassle, but the bodywork lets it down.

Car has done 142,000 miles - but the engine has done 112,000. The original engine blew at 90,000 and was replaced with an engine that had done 60,000 - although I didn't get any paperwork with the replacement engine to prove the mileage.

Has been used as a daily driver most of the past 5 years. I've done 72,000 miles in that time - but a lot of that has been motorway cruising. I've changed the oil and oil filter every 5-8,000 miles and had it serviced regularly. Recent work done includes:

- oil, oil filter and air filter was last changed at 140,980 miles in January. Tracking also done around the same time.

- new clutch around 138,000 in October

- new starter motor at the last MOT at 136,132 in April 2013

- new battery, alternator, radiator, water pump, and cambelt the MOT before that at 114,944 in April 2012.

I have a lot of paperwork from before I owned it, plus lot more receipts from the first 2-3 years I had it when I got it serviced at an independent VW specialist. For the last few years I've been using a local guy who is strictly cash in hand and no paperwork. As a result I don't have much in the way of receipts for the last couple of years.

The engine is great - starts first time, no rattles or knocks, pulls smoothly and with plenty of power. It doesn't burn or drop oil and the oil stays nice and clean for a good few thousand miles after changing it. It also returns good economy - I can get over 40mpg on a long run if I keep the speed down (410 miles on a tank), but typically I get around 330 on a tank, which is probably around 35mpg.

It had a recon gearbox at 60,000 miles a bit before I bought it, and the gearbox is still smooth, quiet, and works perfectly with no syncromesh issues.

The rest of the mechanics all work fine. The only thing that doesn't work on the car is the central locking - it needs a new pump. It's on TA Technics coilovers and handles great. It's now back on the original alloys, which are in good condition and have all the centre caps. Two tyres are reasonable but two will probably need replacing for the next MOT (185/55/14).

Interior is very tidy and clean. No rips, marks or major wear to anything - except the drivers mirror on the sun visor is broken. Will come without a headunit, but I'll leave the wiring in for an amp in the boot, and there are half decent speakers in place of the standard units in the door pockets and in the dash (JVC and Pioneer).

What lets it down is the body work. It was already in need of some paintwork this summer as there are quite a few rust spots appearing. Sills, drivers door and bootlid are the worst bits. However, last week a mate of mine backed into the nearside rear panel putting a massive dent in it. Which is why I've decided to just sell up as it is and get my MK3 on the road for the summer, rather than start on a big body work project.

I'm after £375 as it is. If it doesn't sell I'll get it MOT'd, and maybe sort the bodywork, and stick it up for more..

If you are interested, best to give me a call so I can answer any questions. 07730 558076 or hywelld@hotmail.com. The car is in Hyde, East Manchester, SK14 5QG and I would recommend coming and having a look and a test drive.

OK, finally got round to changing the wheels and taking photos.

Overall it looks reasonably smart:

And the interior is also in really good condition - tidy and clean and looks like a much lower mileage car:

Engine bay is fairly clean and not been messed around with:

This is the big dent that is the worst bit on the bodywork:

And the tailgate is the other really bad bit:

Apart from that it's actually pretty straight and most of the paintwork is still good. However it is starting to look really tatty around the edges, and needs smartening up, or hitting with some matt black..2014-03-23%2019.24.12.jpg2014-03-23%2019.24.22.jpg2014-03-23%2019.24.29.jpg2014-03-23%2019.24.36.jpg2014-03-23%2019.24.42.jpg2014-03-23%2019.23.25.jpg

And finally it does come with a few spares - mainly stuff I had two of after the engine change. There's a spare rocker cover (which I was going to polish it up), spare starter motor, and throttle body. There's also the original grill, a genuine VW air filter, the mudguards etc:

Will you sell the rocker cover and grill?
